Staying True to Your Promise

With 2017 in full swing, many people are already struggling to keep those New Year’s resolutions they swore they would keep. While there is no penalty for breaking your resolutions, you should always try to keep your word, especially if it is to better yourself. But what about those of you with dating resolutions?

Just like any resolution, you need to take action. If your resolution was to find love or date more in 2017, you can’t expect it to just magically happen. Just like resolutions to lose weight, you will only see results with a plan of action.

Here are some tips to follow to help stick to your dating resolutions, and even potentially stumble into love in the new year:

Define the goal

Your first step is to “define the goal.” You made a dating resolution, but what does that entail? Do you want to put yourself out there and meet new people? Do you want to define the relationship with someone you have already been seeing (DTF)? Or are you ready to love again after a long time? Whatever the case may be, ranging from fun to serious, decide ahead of time so you have a goal in mind when entering the battlefield of love. This way you will have a clear idea of what you hope to achieve in love and dating for 2017.

Acknowledge your past

If you are hoping for a better love life in 2017, you first need to take a trip down memory lane. What have you done wrong in the past? And likewise, what have you done right? You can’t learn and move forward with your dating resolutions without acknowledging your past dating experiences and relationships. This is a great way to refine and enhance your goals so you have a clear mind of what you want going into any date or relationship. Once you have successfully revisited your past, you can start planning your future.

Be the best you

You shouldn’t seek happiness with someone until you have reached happiness with yourself. Reflect on how to be the best you. Do you have any individual goals you would like to achieve before diving into love? If you do, put aside your dating resolutions for a second and focus on you. You want to love yourself and be the best version of yourself before involving anyone else. This isn’t a bad thing. You should always want to better yourself first and seek your own happiness before seeking it in someone else. This will help you acknowledge your worth and find someone worthy of your time and love.

If you do not accomplish your dating resolution by the end of the year, it is not the end of the world or your dating life. The whole point is to set goals for yourself and work to achieve them. If you hit a roadblock, don’t give up and keep trying until you get what you want. But if you are lucky, you will be rocking the new year new relationship status for all the see.
