5 Things to Know About Lash Extensions
I get quite a few emails asking about eyelash extensions. Are they easy to get? Are they expensive? Is the upkeep difficult? And what makeup and skincare products do you need to change when you have lash extensions? I went to an expert for the answers. We asked Melissa from The Lash Spa in Melbourne, Australia. She goes go over the basics, and for more information I recommend checking out her blog, where you can learn more about eyelash extensions.
1. There are options
Do you need variety? If you feel like you are one of those women who demand a custom and unique outcome don’t worry, lash extensions are all about customization.
Once you get to the salon, you will have a conversation with your lash lady, who will advise you on different kinds of eyelashes. In terms of materials, there are either silk or mink options, and each lash can vary in size from 0.5mm-12mm. Some women prefer a natural look, while others aren’t afraid of Russian volume eyelashes (the process when several lashes are stacked on top of each of your natural eyelash in order to create a stacked look).
Once properly applied, these lashes will leave you with a fuller lash line, and will allow you to skip applying liquid eyeliners, false eyelashes or even mascara!
2. Worth the money
Some women like to think of lash extensions as a luxurious treatment, while others can justify their price. In fact, one application of lash extensions can be anywhere around $100-$200 (based on your location). Also, if you go for a more voluminous outcome, you will pay more money because your lash expert will use more material during the application process.
Once you have your desired lashes, you will enjoy them for a few weeks, and this is why the price is justified. Lash extensions can last for 2-4 weeks. During this time, you won’t have to purchase or even apply lash curlers, boosting serums, fake lashes or even mascaras! Once you think about it, you might be saving some money by getting this sturdy solution.
If you don’t mind the application process and going to the salon on a monthly basis (in order to get a customized lash solution), then this might be your ideal go-to option.
3. They are waterproof And smudge-proof
Do you live in a humid surrounding? Are you a beach/pool person? If so, you are going to love the power of lash extensions!
These can be worn whenever and wherever since they won’t smudge or move around due to the fact that they are so high-quality. These lashes are waterproof, smudge-proof and sweat-resistant, which also means that you can wear them to the gym. You can run on the treadmill, sip your cocktails at the beach or even enjoy swimming in the pool! None of these activities will affect the lifespan of your new lash extensions. Just make sure you don’t expose them to high heat (such as saunas or tanning beds) because the glue can melt off. Other than that, all other activities are allowed!
4. Low maintenance
If you are a low-maintenance woman, and you prefer simple, quick and easy to do options on a daily basis, you are going to love lash extensions. They don’t demand a lot of care, and all you have to make sure you to do is:
• Don’t use any lash tools (the less serums, tweezers, curlers or mascaras you use, the longer they will last).
• Change your makeup remover (use something that is free of oil because oils can affect the lifespan of your lash extensions).
• Don’t use cotton swabs or cotton pads around your eyelids (these can easily get stuck in between your lash extensions and can be impossible to remove).
• Use a lash comb/spoolie (simply use a smaller lash tool to comb between your lash extensions each morning and night to get them ready for the next day).
5. Not a painful process
If you value comfort, painless beauty treatments, and complete relaxation you are going to love lash extensions. They are super easy to do and will take only 2 hours of your time (at most).
Your lash expert will ask you to lay down on a massage table/bed while they work their magic. They will apply all extensions with the use of sterile needles and high-quality equipment like glue, etc. During this period some women enjoy small talk, while others bring headphones and listen to music. The choice is up to you, but the experience is fun, relaxing and comfortable for everyone. Just make sure your eyes are closed tightly during the whole thing so that you avoid any glue drips or possible eye irritations.
