Teacher Appreciation Day 2013
Teachers have helped mold us into the people we are and continue to do so with each generation. Many hold multiple jobs to meet ends meet or pay for school supplies out of their own pockets. As The Huffington Post reported, a group of Michigan teachers have recently agreed to work for free until the end of the school year on June 23 — that’s more than a month without pay. When this group of dedicated teachers learned their school district had run out of funds, they voted to continue to teach their students.
In celebration of these under-sung heroes today, May 7 is Teacher Appreciation Day! And, a few local eateries are offering some delicious deals:
- Chick-Fil-A: Get one complimentary chicken sandwich all day! (with school ID)
- Chipotle: Enjoy a buy-one, get-one-free deal on burritos, bowls, salads and tacos from 4 p.m. until closing! (with a school ID)
- McDonald’s (Baltimore area only … and Arizona, if you Washingtonians have some friends out there): Get caffinated for the classroom with a free McCafe! (with a school ID or pay stub)
For any of the restaurants mentioned above, please call your local store to make sure that they are honoring this deal. Plus, many restaurants and stores offer a teacher’s discount — just ask, no harm.
Bonus: If you want to give a shoutout to a teacher, the National Education Association asks you to utilize hashtag #thankateacher
