Waterproof Makeup for the Summer

Now that the pools have opened in the DMV and our tote bags are packed to leave for a beach trip on short notice, we have to make sure that our makeup bag is properly packed as well.

If you read my past posts, you have read about setting powders and setting sprays that help keep your makeup from smudging, but what products should you be using so you don’t need setting powder or sprays and can enjoy the beach knowing you are wearing makeup that will stay on through the splashes of water and sweat?

For waterproof makeup, it is best to wear creamy shadows and blushes along with gel-based lipsticks. Also, leave those heavy-duty matte powders and foundations behind and opt for lightweight tinted moisturizers with at least SPF 30. The key to using the right waterproof makeup is to apply it very lightly on your face so as not to have a heavy, dripping makeup face after the humidity, water and sweat settle in.

Below you will find some of my favorite waterproof makeup that I always have with me in my beach bag and are worth investing in if you want to have great, quality products that will last you all through the summer:

Mister Radiant Bronzer Healthy Glow Gel by Givenchy retails for about $36 and is a must have product when going to the beach. You can come out of the shower with a fresh, clean face and apply this gel with microspheres to give you a glowing complexion. The gel enhances your face’s overall color with a luminous glow and makes you look like you just came from getting a facial. It also has an antioxidant-active vitamin E derivative. Be sure to mix some sunscreen into this gel and then you are doubly set to go into the ocean waters.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream eyeshadow in light lilac shimmer retails for $29 and is my go-to shadow that lasts all day long at the beach or pool. The color is a pretty, pastel purple so it goes on light, but definitely keeps the shimmer going well into the night after I have left the beachy shore. Don’t be fooled, just because this is a cream shadow does not mean that it creases or smudges after application on your eyelids; it stays put. It includes mother of pearl particles that give it a shimmery glow for hours on end.

Cheek Tint in sheer cool pink from Jouer Cosmetics retails for about $11 and is a creamy hot pink blush that easily and quickly absorbs into the skin. It is very blendable, allowing you to choose how rosey you would like your cheeks to be for the day. Cream blushes unlike powder blushes do not stay on top of the skin, meaning they last for hours on end since they stick to your skin and don’t just melt away. Fun fact, you can also apply this blush to your lips to give your sandy lips a punch of color. This blush actually stays on your lips too since it is the creamy ingredients that make it stick instead of glide off.
