Choosing Evening Gowns for Holiday Parties
Choosing an evening gown for a Christmas or New Year’s Eve party can be a fun and complicated task all at the same time. But focusing on finding a color that goes well with your skin tone and a cut that works well with your figure can make the process a bit simpler and narrow down your options. Below is a brief guide that can help you choose the perfect evening gown.
Color
An evening gown should be a glamorous dress that highlights all the positive and beautiful attributes of your body. It should cast you in the best light and turn heads as you enter the room. So when you go to pick out your evening gown, make sure you choose a color that compliments your skin tone. Believe it or not, the color of your gown can be the difference between ghastly and glowing. So be sure you know how to choose the right color for you.
Dark skin tones
If your skin tone is very dark, you’ll want to steer clear of colors like black, navy, grey and other dark colors. These colors will make you fade into the background, and that’s not what you want when it’s your moment to shine. Instead, go for pastels, as they will look stunning against your skin.
Pale skin tones
The worst thing you can do if your skin tone is rather pale is to wear white or yellow. Both of these colors will make you look rather ghostly, and yellow has a tendency to reflect off of the fair skinned and make them look like a walking banana. Instead, choose bright tones. If you have dark hair, red and green are always great options, as the contrast between your dark hair, semi-dark dress and fair skin will be absolutely breathtaking. Otherwise, choose a bright (but not neon) color like pink, orange or royal blue. Against fair skin, these colors pop, but they look quite elegant as well. If you have fair skin and blonde hair, try a light cranberry red in a sparkly material, particularly around the holidays.
Medium skin tones
If you have a medium skin tone, anything with a warm hue will look beautiful on you. You will also be able to don natural and earth tones with striking beauty. Of all the party dresses for women that exist, the sparkly champagne-colored evening gown is among the most breathtaking, and you’re lucky enough to be able to wear it while simultaneously showing off glowing skin.
Fit and cut
While color is important, choosing the right fit and cut for your evening gown is up there on the priority list, as well. Choosing an improper fit can accentuate the things you’d rather minimize, and minimize the things you’d rather accentuate. Choosing the right evening gown for your shape can make you look simply outstanding.
The bust
If you’ve got it where it counts, don’t be afraid to show it off. Evening gowns are typically worn to quite formal events, so staying a bit reserved and classy is recommended. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find a subtle neckline that still shows off a bit of cleavage for effect. Thin straps will minimise your bust, but wider straps will provide you with more support. If you don’t have as much up top as you’d like, you can always opt for a low neckline, but a high neck with long sleeves, if the dress is fitted, will provide you with curve-hugging style that will actually make you appear to have more of a bust.
Tummy troubles
If you have more of a tummy than you’d like, satin and silk should not be worn as they will show absolutely everything. Instead, opt for something that is fitted at the waist and then flared or loose at the bottom. Empire waistlines are always a great choice. If you don’t have much of a waist, a straight-cut spaghetti strap dress will accentuate your bust, which will make you appear curvier.
What a bum
If you want to round out the shape of your butt, a low-cut back will do the trick. But if you want to accentuate your bottom and make it appear slightly larger, a mermaid or fish-tail style dress is perfect.
No matter what body shape or skin tone you have, the right dress will help you show off what you’ve got with grace, dignity and class. Embrace your figure and highlight your attributes for everyone to see. This is your moment to shine, and you should be proud and confident when wearing your dress. Now go find that dress and knock them all out!
