Make Cinco de Mayo a Festive Date Night
Today is Cinco de Mayo and everyone in the DMV is ready to fiesta! Historically, this day commemorates the Mexican army’s victory against the French at the Battle of Puebla. Most people think the holiday also marks Mexixo’s independence day, but that really is just a big misconception. Regardless, most people don’t really care why they are celebrating and just use this day as an excuse to get trashed with endless tequila.
Since this holiday lands on a Thursday this year, you know D.C.’s happy hour scene will be crowded with festive party people. But still conflicted on what to do? Just grab the Corona to your lime and celebrate into the weekend at one of these places.
Happier hour
Like I said, happy hour is going to be packed, but you still have to go. After a long day at work, you deserve a margarita or three. So call your date to meet you at El Centro D.F., Masa 14 or somewhere else that will be celebrating with festive drink specials. And if you are going out with friends, see who can get the most free tequila shots bought for them.
Salsa night
Feeling feisty? Take your date out to some place like Cafe Cintron, where you can take over the dance floor and attempt to salsa. Spanish dancing tends to get sexual, so shake those hips to get lucky. And if you are single, even better. Check out the best dancer on the dance floor and grab their attention. You know what they say, the better the dancer, the better in bed.
House fiesta
If you want to avoid the drunken crowds, bring the party to your casa. Make a guest list with potential dates or, if you are already taken, just invite a ton of friends. Make sure to keep up with the theme when it comes to drinks, food and music. If you can, throw in a prop area for photos with your date and friends filled with fake mustaches and sombreros. Since the party is at your house, everyone can crash at your place and the party can be never ending.
Whether your single or taken, Cinco de Mayo will be a wonderful, blurred memory. Just remember to be safe and know your limit. Tequila is your friend, just don’t abuse her.
