Communication Key to a Good Relationship

Days as old as time tell us that communication is key. And whoever spoke those words is the true love guru. Without communication, your relationship is meaningless.

Looking back on my own relationship, communication saved us more than we ever could have anticipated. While we are so happy and work as a unit now, there were times where if we had not communicated, we would have been screwed. Words are easily misunderstood, so reaching out and elaborating is sometimes necessary to clear the air and grow as a couple.

While communication is necessary throughout your entire relationship, here are three times it is especially key to ensure a happy, healthy relationship.

When you are busy

If your life is feeling hectic, take a step back and breathe. Your relationship shouldn’t add stress to your life, it should be a source of comfort and support. If you feel like you are getting too busy to keep up with your relationship, talk about it and be open. It is better to openly warn your significant other than just cut them out entirely. If possible, schedule them into your day, even if it is just a quick text to remind them you care.

When you are annoyed

If you are annoyed at your significant other, voice it. If you don’t, it could build up to something bigger than it needs to be. Nip it in the bud and express how you feel. After laying it all out on the table, the two of you will be able to move on without any ill feelings. It may be over something stupid, but talking about it earlier is much better than letting it potentially become a blow out fight later on.

When you are hot and bothered

A great sex life can make or break a relationship. If you are bored in the bedroom, that is a problem. Don’t just open your legs, open up about what you do and do not like when having sex. Don’t be afraid to hurt your significant other’s ego, because in the long run this talk will benefit both of you. If you are happy in bed, you will want to do it more, which will make him or her happy. No need to be shy about it. If you have already seen each other naked, don’t be coy and communicate freely.

Communication is gold in any relationship. Anytime you hold something back, you are only hurting yourself. Be open and make time to talk whenever possible. Whether it is good or bad, if you communicate and respect one another, it will allow for an honest relationship.
