What the Hair?
I love my hair. The hair on my head that is. Men are so lucky they don’t have to worry about that embarrassing “unwanted hair.” Women have to deal with our bikini-area, eyebrows, legs, arms and dare I say it — the upper lip!!! GASP. Oh god no, I’m a woman, so why the hell do I have a mustache? Not to mention that as you get older, it only gets worse. Don’t EVER look in a lighted magnified mirror because you will discover those “whiskers” on your chin.
Celebrities Are Just Like Us
Celebs like Kim Kardashian (an Armenian, so you know she has to remove a ton of hair from everywhere) have tons of unwanted hair too.
Even the beautiful Sophia Loren is not immune to thick, coarse underarm hair. (She is Italian after all.) And just because she’s a blonde doesn’t mean Mischa Barton doesn’t have a little facial hair here and there too. Remember at the Golden Globes when Julia Roberts waved to her fans only to show that she hadn’t shaved or waxed her armpits? Ooh and what about Monique and those hairy legs on the Red Carpet?
But ladies, these are just the facts. We all have to deal with the “unwanted” hair. Men deal with losing their hair — so what’s worse? I say the latter. And you know why? It’s almost impossible to avoid going bald, but it’s not impossible to get rid of unwanted hair once you know what products and methods really work — then it just becomes a part of your beauty routine and it can even be downright pampering.
Introducing Shobha
We won’t have to wait long for Shobha, a sanctuary for hairless happiness slated to open in the DuPont Circle area this Spring. Have you ever tried sugaring or threading before? Well soon you can. Already on the map in several locations in Manhattan, now D.C. finally gets it’s chance to be a little less hairy and get super pampered.
Shobha seriously has AHHMAZING products (I know because I tried them). They avoid all things toxic, do not test on animals and have a strict no double dip policy, ensuring no spatula is ever re-dipped into the vat of wax/sugaring gel at their salons.
Eyebrow Threading
I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded for years. Unfortunately the options of where to go are so limited here in D.C. You can catch me at Union Station or Pentagon City Mall at those open stands, sitting in a chair as everybody walks by and just stares.
Those are my options, but I love threading so much that I just try to forget about all the passersby staring and gawking in disbelief. You can also get your upper lip and chin area threaded too.
The Benefits of Threading
Threading is by far the gentlest and most precise form of hair removal. The process involves a piece of thread that is twisted and pulled along areas of unwanted hair acting like a mini-lasso, lifting the hair directly from the root.
- It’s 100% natural and sanitary — no artificial waxes, chemicals or invasive techniques
- minimizes irritation
- provides perfect precision and targets individual hairs
- and in my opinion, it lasts a lot longer than waxing does. It feels like a little pinch, but with beauty comes a little pain. No more or less than the pain of waxing.
Eyebrows can make or break you. Anybody who knows me, knows I’m obsessed with having a perfect brow. So I thread regularly — about once every 2 1/2 weeks and I use the Shobha *enhance earth* for brunettes brow pencil.
No matter how great your eyebrows are, you should always use a pencil to fill in any gaps and give your eyebrow a nice polished finish.
Shobha Sugaring
Sugaring is a much more natural and a very good alternative to waxing. Get rid of any hair anywhere with less pain then waxing. Sugaring consists of only sugar, lemon juice, water & glycerin — you can even eat it! (Not going to lie, I had a taste and it was good.)
That’s how natural this product is. It’s incredible!!! It’s way more effective and less painful then wax (and you know we all have a bad hot bikini wax story). It’s super efficient and safely and effectively gets rid of all the body and bikini hair you need to remove. Did I mention how fabulous this product is for for sensitive skin? Say goodbye to red bumps and ingrown hairs from shaving or waxing and start sugaring for smooth, flawless, hairless skin.
Try the Rosewater calming cloths too!
So now that you know about “sugaring”, “threading” and Shobha, try it all out! And say adios to that unwanted hair! Want to know more? Watch this video and visit DC’s very own Shobha salon coming soon!
