Baking Outside The Box

Clear the table

With Thanksgiving just in our rear view mirror, it’s time to gear up for the holidays and that means enjoying some festive foods. Here are five twists on some traditional recipes.

(From left to right)

1. Sweet Potato Casserole Cookies
Is the usual casserole too heavy for you? Try this light take in the form of cookies. Yum! Here’s the recipe if you want to give it a go.

2. Cranberry Applesauce with Ginger
Sometimes those whole berries are just too much to navigate around when all you want is that popping cranberry flavor. This applesauce gets straight to it. Pinch My Salt shows you a sure-fire way to enjoy this concept.

Go vegan!

3. Lentil Loaf
Skip the usual carnivore cravings and head for healthy. Whole Foods Market gives you a simple to follow recipe for a first time (or experienced) vegan chef.

4. Pumpkin Lasagna
Love pumpkins? Love lasagna? Marry the two in this unique dish. It tastes just as delicious as it looks. Nicole explains how to recreate it over at Prevention Rd.

Don’t forget the eggnog

5. Spiked Eggnog Doughnuts
Eggnog doesn’t have to be tethered to just a drink this holiday season. A sweet worth a second look are these delectable doughnuts. Susie whips up a batch over at her website.
