The truth is that having a micromanager in a team can be stressful. No one wants to work with a boss who is always up in their business.
It shows a lack of trust
You hired the best people to be a part of your team. It would help if you showed that you trust them. Don’t allow them to rely on you all the time. You want to bring out their creative juices. If you micromanage, these employees become too dependent. They will ask you how to do every single task. It feels good to know that they rely on you, but you aren’t cultivating a sense of independence. You can’t be there for everyone at all times. It is true, especially for a growing business. Therefore, you have to prove that you trust them by not micromanaging.
No one will take the initiative
Since you are treating everyone like dependent babies, none of them will take the initiative. If you are out, you can’t rely on anyone to take a leadership role. You made them too dependent on your orders, and they can’t do their job well. If you are not around, the company will halt. It is terrible for the growth of the business.
You make people feel stupid
When you micromanage, you end up criticizing everyone. You tell people how to do things and why they are doing the tasks incorrectly. Your actions will make your employees feel worthless. They don’t grow along the way. They also lose self-confidence. You have to give them a chance to discover how to do things and learn from their mistakes. Teach them at first and give them a few examples. You can also set expectations and deadlines. Once you give them enough information, it is time for these employees to soar.
You have to change your attitude
The problem with micromanaging isn’t with the employees. It is you. They are not incompetent. You just don’t trust them enough. You are a control freak who can’t rely on the employees to manage themselves. You have to start changing your behavior.
If you keep micromanaging, your employees will ask you to do everything. They feel paralyzed. Some of them might even think about leaving. They don’t feel like they are growing in any way.
You have to trust your employees, but still be there to supervise. You can still be a leader and a manager without going into every detail. You can also ask people to report to you about the progress of the team. There are several ways to determine how you can help and bring the company up without micromanaging.
When your team accomplishes a milestone, you need to come up with a fun activity. Everyone deserves a reward. It would help if you can host fairground rides for hire. You can ask your employees to bring family members with them. It is an excellent way to boost the bond among families and make the employees love their job more.
