Together or Not, Christmas Comes!

If you are single, you know there is much more to Christmas than kisses and gifts. If you are taken but your loved one is away this holiday season, it is a little harder to celebrate.

So many have loved ones away this time of year. Whether it is because of business trips, the military or simply having to attend separate family affairs, it is all hard one way or another.

But have no fear. While the holidays happen on particular days, it is really the spirit that counts. Right? So if you know your loved one will be away this holiday season, try to plan a quick little celebration before they leave or after they get back.

It can be a surprise and bring tears of joy to their face. Or it can be something you both plan together. Either way, it is really the thought that counts.

If you are thinking of throwing this faux-holiday surprise, here are a few things to remember when planning:

Deck the halls

If you want to be in the holiday spirit, make sure it looks the part. Take out the decorations and set up shop. If this is something you are surpassing your partner with, have them walk in and be shocked by all your hard work. Or if it is a planned thing, do it together and make a date out of it with hot chocolate and all while decorating the tree together.

Holiday sweets

Talking about hot chocolate, you are going to want some more classics. From gingerbread houses to peppermint patties, cooking together will be a fun way to get you both in the holiday spirit.

All wrapped up

Screw waiting, and go ahead and open those gifts together! It doesn’t matter if you are early or late, all that matters is that you both went out of your way to surprise one another. So feel free to open them while you are still together. And if you don’t have time for gifts, that is okay! The greatest gift you can give each other is your time, so don’t stress over it. Plus there are always birthdays, anniversaries and many more holidays for gift giving if you are that concerned.

Instagram away

Commemorate the moment and snap away! What will matter years from now won’t be the actual day, but the memories you make. So take a few photos that will help you remember the moment, how you made the most of your situation and got through it together. Yes, you will miss your partner on the actual day, but you will have these days before or after to make up for it.

All the kisses

You best believe if your partner is gone this holiday season, you are getting all the kisses and goods before and after they leave. Kiss under every mistletoe you see, and just kiss for the hell of it. Sure it will suck having no one there if they are gone until after the new year, but at least you know when they get back that kiss will be that much sweeter.
