How Your Life Changes After Having Kids

The kissing song says that “first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage.” Well, the lyrics left that song incomplete. It never told you what came of the parents. That is something you never really thought about as a kid, but as a parent, that song did no justice to parenting.

Before kids, you and your spouse probably grew accustomed to doing things together … just the two of you. Once you found out you were going to have a baby, you may not have realized just how much change it would bring about. Yes, you knew that you would have to make adjustments to your home and lifestyle, but had no idea just how many changes you would have to make.

The changes that come with kids, are changes you might not have wanted or expected, but they are also changes that you are glad you had to make. Let’s take a look at some ways your life changes after having kids.

Shopping

Shopping with kids can be a task at times. When your kids are babies, it isn’tso bad. They don’t know what Skittles are, and they are definitely not reaching out and touching everything. When your kids grow up to be toddlers, that is when it gets a little tricky. Toddlers are of an age that prompts mothers to say, “Don’t touch anything in this store,” all the time.

When you are out shopping, you can’t buy yourself something without buying them something too. This is a moment of realization that it is not just about you anymore. You can’t just go and buy yourself a cute little black dress … you also have to keep your favorite little girl as fashionable as you, with darling dresses and cute shoes.

Social life

In the mornings, you used to enjoy watching your soap operas, but now you get to enjoy the musical stylings of Puppy Dog Pals in the mornings, and Spongebob Squarepants in the evenings.

That may seem like an insignificant change to someone who doesn’t have kids, but for someone who does have children, giving up their TV time can be devastating. It is just one of those things you do for your kids.

Having children also brings about changes in your social life. You may want to get out with friends, but if you don’t have a sitter, then you just have to cancel those plans. Having children doesn’t kill your social life by any means; it just means you have to plan things in advance.

You no longer have the luxury of just up and going out and having a romantic night out; you have to make proper plans to make sure your kids will be looked after during your time out. All the changes that come with having children may seem like a huge inconvenience at first, but once you have kids, you really can’t imagine your life without them.

Home life

Your home life changes drastically after having children. Once your child starts walking, that is when it is crucial to make home improvements. At times, it seems like your child learned how to walk just to test your patience.

Baby proofing your home includes putting up gates in front of stairs, installing locks on cabinets and covering electrical outlets. It is always better to be safe than sorry. When it comes to your kids, safety is always first.

So take the time out to do this to your home for your family. It may have your home looking a little chaotic, but the safety of your little one makes the effort worthwhile.
