Keep Your Blonde Locks Toned
There are a lot of purple shampoos out there to make sure your blonde tresses do not turn into yellow pieces of stringy Play Doh. You know, that bright yellow color that can start to look dirty yellow like when all the Play Doh colors start to mix together.
From affordable to super expensive, you still have to make sure that your hair is getting the right type of purple shampoo it needs. I am a blonde myself, and without purple shampoo my hair can get Tweety bird yellow when originally I had ashy blonde highlights. To keep my hair at the right ashy tone, I’ve had my fair share of experimenting with purple shampoos.
I noticed that some brands of purple shampoos dry my hair out even more and asked my hair stylist about it. She told me the purple shampoo is not drying itself, but it does not contain moisturizing properties. Thus, using the shampoo doesn’t tone your hair so you need to condition afterwards.
She mentioned that some purple shampoos are now made with moisturing ingredients in them so you can use a purple shampoo and conditioner. She doesn’t recommend using it every day though. My hairstylist said you should use your purple shampoo and conditioner once a week. The rest of the time, you can use moisturizing, cleansing and conditioning shampoos and conditioners for color treated hair.
Below are three purple shampoos and conditioners to try:
Joico’s Color Balance Purple shampoo sells for $15.99 for a 10.1-ounce bottle and $17.99 for the conditioner. This set has a great smell and also helps to tame frizz and keep your hair shiny. The older purple shampoos still leave my locks frizzy and parched.
Drybar’s Blonde Ale shampoo and conditioner both retail for $27 for an 8-ounce bottle. They are especially hyadrating so I can use them twice a week. They tone my hair to almost white-blonde streaks, which I really like for the winter and rainy days. They also have keratin in them so your hair will be silky.
R+Co’s Sunset Blvd shampoo and conditioner retail for $29 each for 8.5 ounces. This set is also ultra hydrating, sulfate-free and smells like you are in a department store with fragrant scents all around you, so you can relax in the smell as you lather your hair and soap up.
