Repair Your Dry, Damaged Hair at Home
I have a friend who is all about saving money — a great quality to have when it comes to beauty products since we can overspend on stuff that might have a home remedy. She asked me the other day if I could reccommed some at-home remedies for her severely dry and damaged hair.
My friend has been highlighting her hair since she was a teenager, but now that she is older her hair is completely fried. I can’t say my hair looks any better since I too have been highlighting it since my college years, and my hair is also curly, which means it gets dried out easier because of the hair straightening I always do to it. A lot of women go platinum blonde and still have healthy hair; it is all about taking care of your hair as you do your face every morning. You have to care for it correctly so it won’t fry so easily when you use heating tools or be so chemically damaged from all the bleach that is found in highlight ingredients.
I recommend a great shampoo and conditioner that is made for specially for “checmically treated hair.” Also, you can try one of the at-home remedies below twice a week to get your hair back to a more normal pH balance so it can start to retain more moisture. Also, after every time you wash your hair, keep in a leave-in conditioner throughout the day so your strands can stay frizz-free and be more preparared for your weekly deep-conditioning treatment.
Coconut oil
You will need 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil.
Put the coconut oil into the bowl and heat in the microwave for 20 seconds. When it is done, add the jojoba oil and mix together. Now you can just dig in with your hands and apply the coconut oil to your hair concentrating on especially dry areas. When you are done, leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Feel free to put a hair cap on and blow dry it, which helps the coconut oil penetrate even more deeply into your hair shafts, but you don’t have to for this magical potion to do wonders to your hair.
When time is up, just rinse it off and comb your hair through with a wide-tooth comb and you will notice how shiny and less tangled it is. The oil helps keep strands hydrated eliminating that chemically damaged look and also giving your hair the nutrients it needs to repair itself.
Raw apple cider vinegar
You will need 2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar and 16 ounces of water.
Mix both together apply to your hair. You only have to leave it on for about 3 minutes. Raw apple cider is not stripped of its vitamins, so make sure it is raw to give your hair the stuff it needs to look and feel better. This treatment helps your hair shafts harden, which in turn smoothens out frizz and makes combing your hair a much easier process because the comb will glide through. And we all know easier combing means less breakage and hair loss.
