12 Tips to Look Your Best When Traveling
Now, everyone knows that travelling isn’t a fashion show. There will be days when you look absolutely fabulous, but then there are also going to be a lot of moments where you simply have to suck it up and admit that this isn’t going to be one of those times where you are turning heads left, right and center. However, those moments don’t have to be quite as extensive as you might think. By knowing just a few handy tips and tricks, you can make sure that you are ready for a travelling selfie the majority of the time. Got a big trip planned? Then take our advice: you will look great.
Plan a night of rest when you land
We know, we know: when you land in a new destination, the excitement kicks in, and you want to devour everything that the region has to offer. But let’s keep something in mind: you have been traveling, probably for multiple hours, and it is not going to be possible to radiate a glowing, healthy look as soon as you step off the plane. Instead, why don’t you have a low-key first night on your travels? You can get a glass of wine at the poolside bar, then turn in early. You will be fresh and full of energy the following morning, and most importantly, will be back looking your best.
Hair for the weather
Sometimes, it won’t matter if your makeup is on point, or if you are wearing a knockout dress. It won’t matter because everyone will be distracted by your hair, which has had a violent — and unsightly — reaction to its new surroundings. Specifically the weather, and to be even more specific, usually the humidity. Before you travel, read up on what weather you should expect, and then make sure that you pack all the products you are going to need when you land. It will be a lifesaver…especially if you are in a foreign country and have no idea what any of the labels on the products in the beauty store say.
Have a go-to outfit
If you are doing some serious backpacking, then you will probably end up wearing the same outfit many, many times. If you are going to only be wearing one costume, then you better make sure that it is a good one! If you have put together one that is comfortable, good for travelling and stylish, then you will be giving yourself a base level of confidence each time you step out of your hostel or hotel.
Use the accessories
As we said above, if you are moving from place to place — in fact, even if you aren’t — then you are bound by the number of clothes you can stuff into your luggage. No matter how big your bag is, you probably won’t be able to bring along every item that would make you look your best. This is where your accessories can do you a good job. Sometimes it is difficult to make a shorts and t-shirt combination really pop, but if you add killer shades, bracelets and a hat, then you are going to be looking pretty cool when you are strutting along the beach promenade.
In the makeup bag
You will be able to take your makeup bag with you, but due to weight and space issues in your luggage, you are not going to be able to take the cabinet full of supplies that you would have in your home. If you are backpacking, then you will have to be even more selective with the beauty products that you are taking, because you are unlikely to have the space or time to go through your whole makeup routine. Pick your most important items, try to take products that serve more than one purpose. The best micellar waters, for instance, and you will have a makeup remover, cleanser and toner all wrapped up into one product. Beyond that, it is about having the makeups that will make you look and feel great when the effects of travelling are leaving you looking a little worse for wear.
Protection from the sun
As part of your skincare regime, you should already know about the damaging effects of the sun. If you are not taking proper precautions when you are exposed to sunlight, then you run the risk of going long-term damage to your biggest organ. When you are traveling, the sun will present a more pressing concern: burning your skin and making you look like a tomato, which isn’t the best look when you are soaking up the sights of a foreign land. Always make sure you are wearing enough sun screen; there is no chance you will regret it. If you are trying to get a tan, then read up on the best ways to tan safely.
Getting exercise
Yes, it is true that traveling can be — no, should be — a relaxing experience, but it is important that you are not trying to make it too relaxing. If you have a solid workout schedule when you are at home, then don’t just throw it into the trash the second you head for the airport. If you are able to incorporate a portion of exercise into your day, then you will be on your way to looking and feeling your best, as well as giving yourself the energy you need to explore the sights. Of course, no one is expecting you to run a marathon or work out every day, but just a quick 15 minute of exercise will make a difference.
Staying hydrated
You are going to be living a pretty hectic lifestyle when you are on the road, and it is easy to forget to drink the recommended allowance of water each day. But here is the thing: when you are traveling, you are going to need even more water, because you will be moving around in the heat! As such, you need to make drinking water a priority. It will prevent your skin from drying out and will also help combat the effects of jet lag.
Eating well
We know what it is like when you are on the road. You don’t know where to go, and the only place you recognize is a chain restaurant that you are pretty sure won’t be that good for you. The temptation to go in and order a combo meal will be strong, but resist it…you know it won’t lead anywhere you want to go. Instead, source out the local delicacies before you travel. They will be much better for you, tastie, and you will be sampling the local culture, which is what travelling is all about.
Sunglasses trick
Some days, you are going to wake up and just not be ready to face the world. Maybe it is an early flight; maybe your hotel has an unusually early check out time. Either way, you don’t want people to see you. So if you can’t look your best, what do you do? Hide from the world. A pair of big shades and a hat will cover all sins. And you will look pretty mysterious as you walk through the airport, too.
Travel size help
Don’t forget to get some help from those mini travel size editions of the staples before you set off on your journey. If you have a bottle of dry shampoo with you, you won’t need to worry about getting to the hotel and washing your hair. Just throw a few sprays on for a fresh look. Also, eye drops will take your eyes back to their popping best after a long flight.
Everything in moderation
Finally, remember that the laws of your body don’t dissolve when you are not at home. Avoid too many late nights, and all those tasty beers. Everything in moderation.
