What to Wear to a Winter Wedding
Weddings are great for anyone that enjoys dressing up. It is one of the rare occasions where we can go all out and really look flashy. Traditionally, weddings take place in the summer because that is when the weather is best. Everyone wants those killer wedding pics with the blue skies and the bright green grass.
Having said that, winter weddings are quickly becoming more and more popular. I think couples like the idea of a cozy wedding, hopefully with some snow falling for a really cute wedding photo. Now, I have to say, I think this is a very cute idea for a wedding. The only issue is that it is hard to know what to wear from a guest’s perspective. At a summer wedding, you don’t really have much to worry about. Your biggest fear is that it rains, but that can be addressed with an umbrella. Here, you have to figure out how to dress appropriately, look your best, but not freeze to death.
What can you do to tick all these boxes? I’ll help you figure this out with some of my best advice.
Maxi dresses
Naturally, a dress is pretty much the go-to clothing item when attending a wedding. In summer, you have loads of cute and colorful options at your disposal. However, most of these might not be suited to winter weather. Instead, you should think about wearing a maxi dress to help you tick all the right boxes.
I love maxi dresses because they are nice and long, which makes them perfect when it is cold. Furthermore, you can wear tights or leggings under them for some extra warmth when you are standing outside waiting for all the pictures to be taken. If you have a look on LotusBoutique.com, you will see there are loads of styles to choose from too. Personally, I prefer wearing a dress that is all one color to a wedding. I feel like patterns are just a little bit extra, and you don’t want to draw too much attention to yourself. Of course, you don’t want to wear a white dress and avoid the same color as the bridesmaids. My favorite colors for a winter wedding are a nice pale pink or icy blue.
Jumpsuits
If a dress isn’t your thing, then a jumpsuit makes for an ideal alternative. It will keep you well-covered and relatively warm, which is exactly what you are looking for in a winter wedding outfit. More to the point, there are some amazing styles you can choose from out there. If you look on onefabday.com, you will see some really cute and stunning jumpsuits that are ideal for weddings.
They are smart yet subtly sexy, which I guess is kind of what you are aiming for at a wedding — if you are single anyway! You want to almost show off your figure, but you don’t want it to be obvious or too revealing. A jumpsuit is perfect for anyone who has been working hard in the gym and doing lots of squats as it can really bring out your bum. Again, try and keep the colors simple here, a jumpsuit will already turn some heads, you don’t want all eyes to be on you at someone else’s wedding!
Trench coat
I almost cringe whenever I see or hear the words trench coat because it just doesn’t seem very appealing. I have this image of some old man from the 40s in a long dirty coat. However, modern trench coats are absolutely nothing like that. They are amazingly chic and stupendously stylish. A quick look on justthedesign.com will show you a few different trench coat styles and the best way to wear them. For a winter wedding, you are looking for something that matches your main outfit and makes you feel nice and warm.
After all, that is the main reason you should choose one of these coats over any other options. At a summer wedding, you can probably get away with a tiny little blazer to accompany your outfit. In fact, if it is very hot, you might not bring any cover-up at all. In winter, you need one as you will be outside a lot and it will feel very cold. A trench coat almost covers you completely, which will go a long way to making the day feel less freezing.
Suitable footwear
I don’t have one particular type of footwear that I will recommend to you for a winter wedding. Instead, I have one solid piece of advice you should live by; wear suitable footwear. Again, think back to what you would wear at a summer wedding. Most of the time, it is a chance to get your fanciest shoes out, or maybe some cute sandals, etc. In winter, things need to be thought through more practically. Should you wear any open toe shoes at a winter wedding? Probably not, because your feet will be freezing. Is it wise to wear high heels when it is cold and icy? Again, I would say no.
My point is, wear things that are suitable to be worn during winter. Avoid materials that get damaged by wetness too, as it is likely there will be some water or snow around. This doesn’t mean you have to put on a pair of wellies or sneakers at a winter wedding. There are still some great shoes you can wear that tick all the boxes and look stylish. I do think it is beneficial to wear tights of some kind to a winter wedding, and your feet are one of the reasons for this. I mentioned tights earlier when talking about dresses, but they can add an extra layer of warmth to keep your feet toasty too. Even if it is a pair of nude colored tights, you don’t have to wear different colored ones.
Hopefully, all this advice has helped you figure out what to wear to a winter wedding. There is definitely a cute element to weddings in snowy settings, but they can be hard to dress for. Follow my tips, and you will look amazing without sacrificing comfort.
