Try These Conditioners to Tame Curly Locks

My hair is an enigma of sorts. It goes from being really moisturized and curly to being dry and frizzy. I presume this is because I dye it a lot, and I was born with curly hair. But, I have never really taken care of my hair with specific products for curly hair. I have always gotten my hair chemically straightened or straightened it myself with a styling iron. But, I am getting tired of having to comb through my curly knots, then separating it into strands so that I can straighten each section. I want to let my hair just be: curly, frizzy, wavy or whatever it may be on any given day.

Given that I look like a crazy person or like someone who is unkempt when I leave my hair in this state, I figured I should look into some conditioners made specifically for curly hair so that I can start the process of wearing my hair curly right out of the shower.

I have to change my shampoos and conditioners to those made specifically for curly hair, then change my leave-in conditioners and hair serums as well. It is definitely a process, but worth it if you are using products that will help improve the quality of your hair for the long term. I am also ripping my hair out by trying to comb out the knots I get from not using curly hair products, so it was about time I faced the music and found a new hair regimen.

I am sure that a lot of you curly-haired women know which conditioners to use depending on the type of weather, or the best ones for detangling, etc. Having curly hair requires knowing how to care for it. Below are my three favorite conditioners for curly hair, and the best time to use them:

LIving Proof Curl Detaingling Rinse is a gel-like conditioner that helps to comb through your curly knots. (Photo: Living Proof)

Living Proof Curl Detangling Rinse is not a conditioner exactly, but it works amazingly to get out your hair’s knots. It won’t work on dreads, but if you have the curly hair knots that have just started, it will get those out. It has a gel-like consistency and helps keep your curls in tact after showering by the heaviness of the product.

Naturally Smitten’s Hydrating Hair Custard is great for cold and dry environments yet won’t weigh down your hair on a hot summer day with product. It smells amazing; I always want to drink a fruit smoothie after using it. And, it leaves your hair silky soft.

Bumble and Bramble’s Bb Curl Custom Conditioner uses Bumble’s Hydasculpt blend, which leaves your curls shiny and frizz-free, and includes UV inhibitors so that your curly hair won’t dry out in the sun. It can be used multiple ways, such as a conditioner, leave-in conditioner or as a refresher in between washes.
