Pet Fashion Tips for Dog Lovers

Does your dog go everywhere with you? If your pet is your real-life mini-me, dress her up in the latest pet fashions. Pet fashion is now a multi-million dollar industry, with high end brands like Gucci getting in on the trend. From scarves to sunglasses, there are plenty of ways to accessorise your doggy. There’s even been a Pet Fashion Week in NYC, with pooches strutting their stuff down the catwalk. Treat your canine companion to a makeover with these hot tips.

1. Look to the latest seasonal trends.

Seasonal trends making their way into clothing boutiques also have the tendency to carry over into pet fashion. So if you have been rocking the oversized frills this summer, you can find similar tops for your dog. Looking into autumn/winter 2017, expect to see bright neon accessories and shiny space-age separates for both you and your furry friend. If you aren’t ready to dress up your dog in top-to-toe fashion just yet, look for sparkly collars or fashionably patterned pet beds that mirror these trends. Accessories are always a good way to get the look for less.

2. Choose high-quality materials.

Supple leather, thick organic cotton and eco-friendly bamboo not only look great when used in pet fashions, but they also last longer. Think about the wear and tear your own clothes go through, and then imagine how durable a dog’s sweater needs to be! Leather (or its latest synthetic alternatives) is a classic choice for pet accessories for a reason. Look for colourful collars or sophisticated black booties that will last for years.

3. Consider the comfort factor.

You may be willing to suffer for fashion, but your dog shouldn’t have to. At the core, pet garments are often functional more than anything. Dog booties are used to help protect your companion’s sensitive feet from icy or rough sidewalks, for example. Be sure to choose shoes that fit comfortably and sweaters that don’t restrict movement. If your dog seems unhappy when you put a hat on her, don’t force her to dress up. Avoid materials like Velcro, which can get caught up in fur. Simple snaps are a comfortable alternative.

4. Bring humor into the look.

There is nothing that brings a smile to the face like a dog in sunglasses. There is something inherently comical about dressing up your pets, so don’t be afraid to look for silly accessories or slogan tees. Dog Halloween costumes UK can be reused for everyday wear when you want your pet to stand out from the crowd. Pet fashion isn’t meant to be overly serious, after all.

5. Find harness-friendly pieces.

If you walk your dog with a harness, it may be difficult to find outerwear that won’t get in the way of this common accessory. However, there are detachable fronts for harnesses out there, as well as fleeces that are designed to work around the harness. When you bring your pup to a pet boutique, bring along the harness you usually use to try these out.

Let your dog put her most fashionable paws forward by trying out some of the latest looks!
