Get a Professional Manicured Look at Home
Have you ever been on the way to your closest Netflix kiosk ready to check out the latest, cheesy romance flick when all of a sudden that text comes in? “Emma, our favorite DJ is playing at U Street Music Hall, you gotta check him out. Can we pick you up in a hour?” Well, great. Okay, you can do a quick make up routine, put on your skinny jeans and a trendy blouse, and since messy buns are in, you throw your hair up into one. You’re good to go. Except, your nails …
Half the nail color on your right hand is chipped off, and your left hand only has two nails left that are fully painted. You don’t have time to go to a nail salon or use your new gel polish lamp that you have yet to figure out how to work.
The solution is a relatively new product by Mini Mani Moo! called Mess No More. It comes in a precious pink tube with bejeweled faux diamonds on the top. The product is essentially liquid tape that you put on around the outside of your cuticles to prevent nail polish from being painted anywhere on your skin except your nail.
We all know the hardest and most tedious part of doing manicures at home is not getting polish all over you and then spending most of the time trying to remove the polish from the unwanted areas. Often this messes up the nail all together and then you have to start all over again. I don’t have time for that anymore now that I’ve found this product. It is simple to use and has cut my time in more than half when it comes to applying nail polish at home. Not only does it take less time, but my nails look like I actually went to the nail salon because all of the polish is actually only on my nail, and doesn’t look like my 8-year-old cousin painted my nails with my entire thumb drenched in Princess Purple glitter nail polish.
The first thing to do is to get a small towel, your nail color of choice (check out some of the hottest colors for spring) and a pair of tweezers. You will want to start by placing the towel on a table, your bed or wherever it is you do your home manicures. Then open the Mess No More tube and paint it on the outside of your nails; wherever you do not want your nail polish to touch.
The liquid will act as a barrier on your skin, and not allow any polish to dry and harden on your skin. It works best with two coats of Mess No More. Ideally, you should paint the letter “U” around each nail with the product, wait one minute for it to dry, then apply another coat. Once the second coat dries you can then apply your nail color of choice. After the polish has dried, which depending on your polish will not be longer than 10 minutes, you can reach for the tweezers. With the tweezers, start by pulling one end of the dried liquid tape. It will peel off like actual glue from your hands; a rubbery substance that stretches and is easily removed from your skin. Along with removing the rubbery film from the skin around your fingers, it also gets rid of the polish that you painted on it giving you perfectly lined nails. Since you saved time using this product, use a clear top coat as a finishing touch to make the polish last longer. Now your nails are finished, and you look like you just got them done at a nail salon.
The Mess No More has a smell that I am not fond off. Although it is not too horrible, a fan can lessen it.
The DJ ended up asking me to go up on stage and test out his music equipment, so it is a good thing my manicure was looking great! Another beauty catastrophe aborted thanks to being in the know about new products and helpful tips. You never know what the day brings, so why not take it on with a great looking manicure?
