The Perfect Cherry Blossom Dates

Hello Spring, we have missed you! While we had to endure a rather bipolar winter, we are all hopeful that sunshine is finally here to stay. And with plenty of sunshine, comes Washington D.C.’s famous cherry blossoms. Since I’ve lived near D.C. my entire life, I always take for granted this wonderful sight. But every time I see them again, I am reminded of their true beauty. So whether you are from out of town or from the area, take the opportunity to be a tourist during festival season with someone special.

Now the question is what is there to do? Well that is silly, because there are a ton of options during this springtime celebration. Just take a romantic walk along the tidal basin under the falling cherry blossom petals, enjoy a cruise and see the cherry blossoms by water or take in some of the many organized activities.

Opening ceremony

The 2016 Cherry Blossom Festival’s opening ceremony is this Saturday, Mar. 26. Here you will be sure to welcome springtime in the district with a bang. The Warner Theatre, 513 13th St. NW, will host the opening celebration from 5-6:30 p.m. with world-renowned performers. While tickets are free, they are currently sold out. If last-minute spaces become available, walk-ins will be accepted at 4:45 p.m. on the day of the event. So if you couldn’t get tickets in advance, cross you’re fingers and hope for the best!

Blossom Kite Festival

Next Saturday, Apr. 2, you and your date have the chance to engage in the special 50th anniversary of this amazing kite flying event from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument. This event can be a great experience for the two of you, make and fly your own kite or just spend a romantic afternoon watching others fly them. Plus, this backdrop will make for the best snaps and Instagram photos.

Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival

The following Saturday, Apr. 9, is a must-see spectacular! Harris Teeter presents a fireworks show over the Southwest Waterfront. From 1-9 p.m., there will be dragon boat racing and food trucks along with live music and entertainment for you and your date to enjoy. The fireworks show starts at 8:30 p.m., so complete this date night with drinks before to set the mood.

And more!

Believe it or not, there’s even more festivities to look forward to! You and your date pretty much have your next few weekends booked with marvelous, cherry blossom-filled events. Make the most of it! Take plenty of pictures to capture the moment, and don’t be ashamed of being a tourist this festival season. Find a spot under a stunning cherry blossom tree and take in the beauty around you with that special someone. If you and your date would rather explore than lay around, go for a romantic bike ride around this beautiful scenery. Regardless of what you and your date are into, have fun planning these adorable date nights together and check out more cherry blossom festival activities while you’re at it.
