Pick the Perfect Present for Your Valentine

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Hopefully you’ve already snagged a date, new or old, for this exciting weekend. But now the pressure is on to find the perfect gift.

Where do you start? There’s endless ways to go about this, some more serious than others. So I’ve put together a set of guidelines to making the perfect decision for that special someone.

The basics

If you just grabbed a random date, a gift is not required, but is an added bonus. If you’ve just started to date someone and it’s not super serious, a gift can be a great way to show you care. Since things are new, expectations are lower than usual. I recommend sticking to the basics. Flowers and a box of chocolate can go a long way at the start. Slowly but surely, those basics will become a given as the relationship goes on. So appreciate this time where the basics are unexpected and super appreciated.

The lavish

If you’ve dated someone for a while, the basics won’t cut it. Not that they’re not appreciated, but you’ve seen it before. Step up your game with a more lavish gift. Figure out what material object your special someone has been secretly obsessing over, and surprise him or her with it. This is sure to shock them, and they will appreciate that you took the time to think outside the box and spoil them a little extra.

The experience

Maybe you’re not a materialistic person and can care less for all that glitz and glam. Instead, you may opt for a new adventure. Take time off and give a gift that is a bit outlandish. Go on a weekend cruise or fly somewhere for a small getaway. You and your special someone live for the thrill so be impulsive, or if that’s too much pressure just plan ahead. Either way, it will definitely be a Valentine’s weekend to remember.

The key to the perfect gift is knowing your Valentine. Are they simple? Are they high maintence? Or are they an adventure seeker? Everyone has a different love language, so figure that out for the the happiest ending. I know I’m happy when I get to surprise my significant other, and I see the look of genuine joy. And vice versa. So take the time to get to know your loved one’s interests and desires for the best outcome. Either way, they will love you in the end, but don’t settle for basic if they deserve the world.
