The Return of Cuffing Season

It’s that time of the year again when you dump your summer fling and find a new, temporary person for cuffing season. In case you forgot, cuffing season is when you choose one lucky person to be with you throughout the holidays. This lucky soul gets to accompany you for all the major holidays and buy you lavish presents.

It’s a win-win. But typically you dump your summer fling around this time of the year to ensure that you find your new seasonal, family-approved significant other. But what if I told you sometimes you can actually recycle your summer fling and mold him into the perfect holiday partner. Wouldn’t that be sweet?

Typically this wouldn’t work because summer romances are full of lust and hot summer nights, which means that’s about as deep as it gets. But if you see potential in your summer romance, why dump all that potential? Here are a few ways to evaluate whether or not your summer fling will transition well into your holiday babe.

Talk the talk

Often we base our summer flings solely on looks, which is great but you know you can’t just bring home a model date. Your family will probably try to talk to your significant other, so he or she has to be able to form sentences and actually sound interesting. If your summer fling is drop-dead gorgeous but essentially a mute, that doesn’t work. But, if your summer fling already gets along with your parents and talks about real-world things, that’s extreme potential. All you have to do is train them on how to handle your crazy aunt and cute grandma, and everything should work out just fine this upcoming cuffing season.

Good humor

A good joke goes a long way. If your summer fling is boring AF, it’s not going to work. No one wants to be a a sit-down dinner with a lame. But if your summer fling is fun and outgoing, you should definitely cuff this season. Actually, if he’s this great and personable you might even consider seriously dating him; don’t let the good ones go!

Best dressed

It may sound shallow, but clothing can go a long way especially doing the holiday season. Take a peak at your summer fling’s closet. A significant number of nice dress pants and button-downs are essential. So if all he has is white tees and ripped jeans, dump him. You don’t have time to give someone a complete new makeover. But if you see nice polos, he is a keeper and have potential.

Summer flings are great. While some are clearly temporary, others have potential to last. So make sure to evaluate him properly and see if he has what it takes to make it to the next level.
