Scary Is the New Sexy
It’s the night. You’ve been anticipating this day for a while now. You are both excited, but really nervous at the same time. This night is a big step in your relationship, and it can’t go wrong. It’s scary movie night.
Why is scary movie night such a big deal? You’re essentially making yourself vulnerable to potential embarrassment. This is a whole other side of yourself that you are sharing with your partner, and they should acknowledge this big moment. Besides making a fool of yourself, there is scientific evidence to prove that scary movie night is essential.
According to an article in youbeauty.com, YouBeauty co-founder Dr. Michael Roizen explained that when people are scared, their brains pump out the “feel-good” chemical dopamine. This chemical is the same chemical people release when they are infatuated with a partner. Roizen went on to say that peoples’ hearts race when the chemical is released, and it can become addictive because an euphoric serotonin hormone also gets released.
So everyone throw out that romantic comedy, and make room for thrillers and horror movies. Why question science, embrace the fact that scary is sexy!
So what should you expect from this scary movie date, beside sexual tension of course? There are a handful of outcomes that can come from taking this big step.
These include, but are not limited to…
PDA overload: PDAs are completely acceptable in this scenario. If you’re at the theater, don’t be afraid of being “that” couple. No one is going to judge you for being wrapped up in your partner’s arms. And if they do, they’re just jealous they don’t have someone to hold. Or if you’re at home, you have the perfect excuse to cuddle all night long with no shame.
Nonstop laughter: Too scary? Make it a joke. Your partner will think you have a great sense of humor for picking apart this movie and making it even more entertaining. Plus, you’ll be an awesome sport for attempting to watch his or her favorite horror film, and that gets you kudos points in your relationship.
Roll the credits: So you’ve really tried giving this movie a chance, but one more minute and you literally will pee your pants. So here’s an idea. Just focus your attention elsewhere. If you’re snuggled up at home, just go under the sheets, and I’m sure your partner will be more than happy to follow. They invented the pause button for a reason.
Bottomline
Since science is on your side, you are invincible. Embrace scary movie night, and know you will most likely get lucky. So be a little open to showing off your vulnerable side, and your partner will probably be open to doing the same. Be fearless and do it for the cuddles.
