Enjoy Your Date Despite Cold Weather

After two snow days this month, winter finally feels like it has arrived. Even during freezing conditions, D.C. offers great dating venues. Be sure to bundle up and take your partner on a winter friendly date.

Ice skating

Ice skating is a traditional winter date. There are some great outdoor ice skating rinks around the city. The most well-known rinks are the Sculpture Garden Ice Rink at the National Gallery of Art and the Washington Harbour Ice Rink in Georgetown, featuring beautivul views of the Potomac.

New to the area is the National Harbor Ice Rink on the East Pier featuring beautiful views of the Potomac. The Canal Park Ice Rink, located in the popular Navy Yard neighborhood, is also new to the area. However, after only one season of operation, this rink on 2nd and M Street SE will not be open until mid-December due to a flooding incident caused by a ruptured pipe in the rink’s pump room.

Other area ice rinks include the Pentagon Row Ice Rink, the Silver Spring Ice Rink at Vetrans’ Plaza, the Rockville Town Square Ice Rink and the Reston Town Center Ice Rink.

Cozy up by the fireplace

After facing the freezing weather outside, warm up next to a cozy fireplace. There are some great restaurants and bars in the district that have some delightful fireplaces that are sure to warm up your fingers and spirit. Hang up your ice skates and head to H Street to visit Biergarten Haus. The outdoor patio features a large fireplace and liters of German beer.

The Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown has a wood burning fireplace in the lobby. Better yet, you can bring your date to enjoy complimentary butler-passed s’mores. The s’mores are complimentary each evening between 6:30 pm to 7 pm in the hotel lobby.

Sip on something warm

End the night with a velvety hot chocolate from some of D.C.’s best coffee shops. Tryst is a cozy coffee shop in the heart of Adams Morgan. It is filled with sofas and tables for two. It also offers hot alcoholic beverages such as hard apple cider and Irish coffee. For a more European experience, visit Paul. This boulangerie has a variety of breads and pastries to pair with your hot chocolate.

Ice skating, a warm fireplace and delicious hot chocolate all add up to the recipe of a perfect winter date. Pull out your boots and scarf and head out for a great winter friendly date.
