Furloughed Employees Offered Discounts
The U.S. government ran out of money at 12:01 a.m. this morning and for the first time in 17 years has shutdown. Hundreds of thousand of government workers have been furloughed. The shutdown includes the Smithsonian museums including the National Zoo, the monuments, the National Archives, the Library of Congress and the D.C. golf courses. Evens weddings planned for the Mall have to be canceled or moved.
With the largest concentration of those laid off employees here in the D.C. area, what are you to do? Well many restaurants are offering furloughed federal employees discounts when you present your government employee ID.

Ford’s Theater
While the historic theater is shutdown, the Ford’s Theatre Society will present free performances of its current show, The Laramie Project, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 945 G Street NW, just a block from the theater on Oct. 4 and Oct. 8. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come basis beginning at 6:30 p.m. On Oct. 7, the Lincoln Legacy Project panel discussion has been relocated to the Center for Education and Leadership, 514 10th St. NW, across from the theater at 7 p.m. Also, walking tours will continue during the shutdown.
The Energy Club

Offering “Don’t Furlough your Fitness” campaign with free workouts to keep you in shape. All federal employees and contractors have to do is take their furlough papers and government IDs, and get “free workouts on the days” they’re furloughed, a club announcement says.
