Alfresco, All the Time
The warm months are back again and you need some sun posthaste! Fortunately, D.C. has got you covered with a wonderful selection of open-air drinking and dining venues. Check out these establishments for grub and suds in the sun.
Biergarten Haus
Summer is all about vacation and if vacation isn’t in the budget then escapism. H Street’s Biergarten Haus gives the look and feel of a Bavarian hunting tavern with taxidermy on the walls and tall steins full of rich, thick bock you will probably not be able to pronounce, but will certainly enjoy. With both a patio and rooftop area, patrons can get their share of vitamin B, but just be careful not to get the ever unattractive lederhosen tan line.
Dirty Martini
Dupont’s Dirty Martini has now opened up their tiki bar. Wednesdays through Friday, tropical minded guests can enjoy rum-based mixes in a rooftop setting. There is even hookah available if you’re feeling so inclined.
Johnny’s Half Shell
Right on North Capitol Street, Johnny’s Half Shell open-aired, roof-covered terrace has a commanding view of the Capitol and the hustle and bustle of nearby Union Station. Their happy hour raw bar menu of clams and oysters gives the salty brine of the beach from the comfort of an upscale, breezy setting.
Vendetta
Okay, no outdoor seating at H Street’s newest restaurant of the month, but who needs the great outdoors when you’ve got temperature controlled bocce? In addition to hearty Italian fare,Vendetta has two, 25-foot bocce courts that are free to enjoy as long as you’ve got a drink in hand. Need a break from kickball? Vendetta will soon be hosting weekly league play, so polish off your set and stay tuned for more details.
