Off
42, Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Oblivion, Pain & Gain, The Big Wedding, top box office

Pain & Gain Muscles Out Top Place

Paramount’s Pain & Gain opened in first place last weekend with $20.24 million. The Michael Bay film stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson. It was a fairly close race for first place, with Pain & Gain topping the second weekend take of Universal’s Oblivion by $2.44 million.

While this weekend’s start was solid, Pain & Gain’s prospects aren’t good as Disney’s highly anticipated Iron Man 3 this Friday.

Oblivion took second place with $17.8 million. The Joseph Kosinski directed sci-fi starring Tom Cruise fell 52 percent from last weekend’s debut. Warner’s 42 placed third with $10.66 million. The Jackie Robinson biopic starring Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford fell 40 percent from last weekend.

Lionsgate’s The Big Wedding opened in fourth place with $7.59 million. The ensemble comedy featuring Robert De Niro and Katherine Heigl debuted below modest expectations.
