Boat Ride Is a Nice Way to See the Blossoms
What a beautiful Saturday in Washington, D.C. It is 60°F and super sunny out.
I find myself with a refreshing cocktail on a lounge chair at the tidal basin. I left early that morning to check out the cherry blossom festival before I got on the cherry blossom boat tour. It was pretty crowded at the festival. They had a lot of kids activities going on like kite building, face painting and paddle boating. I personally enjoyed the live music the most.
Everybody was in a great mood, and I made small talk with the people around me. I talked to a couple that came all the way from Missouri and five girls my age from California that made a trip especially to see the cherry blossoms. At around 5 p.m. it was time to get on board the “celebration cruise” and the sun was still with us. I was fairly excited.
I treat myself to another yummy cocktail while we are taking off and am sittingon the upper deck.
I know that the cherry blossoms were late with blooming this year, but my boat took off at just to the right time. It was so beautiful … breathtaking even! The colors were so pretty. As we cruised
through the water I could see a lot of people gathering around the trees capturing the beauty of it. Some of them were dressed up in their best dress to get a fancy picture, others just stopped by from a bike ride. A bunch of different people … coming together.
The boat tour went on for an hour, and we got to see the trees from different angles and a nice view of the harbor. I made some more conversation with people on the boat, talking about the ongoing festival and the fireworks that were happening later that night. The boat I was on had mostly couples and some families. No single man for me today ;( but tha’ts alright, everybody just seemed to enjoy themselves. So I lay on the deck for some more sunbathing…
As we got off the boat, the sun had set and we got to see a pretty view of the Washington Monument and were also back in time to enjoy the fireworks as part of the cherry blossom festival at the tidal basin.
I hope you all had a good time during the Cherry Blossom Festival.
