Eat, Drink but Mostly Dance
Looking for fun in the strictly business K Street area? Capitale might be your cup of crazy.
Let Random Ring
K Street’s newest watering hole, Capitale, bills itself as a “Hogwarts-meets-Hollywood” styled place. Decorated with wrought iron chandeliers, bookshelves on bookshelves, an abundance of mirrors, bronzed leaning pillars, and a raised DJ stand that looks like a speaker’s pulpit, Capitale makes good on its promised grandeur and ends up looking like a Versailles-meets-Senate-Floor fun house.
Food to Go
Capitale’s innovation doesn’t stop with design, though. In a citywide first, Capitale’s owners have partnered with D.C. food trucks to provide no fuss, gourmet food options for hungry happy hour goers. Check out this lobster lasagna I got from the friendly folks at Basil Thyme:
I enjoyed this tasty package right at the bar with a nicely paired coke and rail whiskey- Jim Bean, to give an indication of drink prices. All the white Styrofoam might detract a tad from Captiale’s regal zaniness, but I’ll sacrifice a little ambiance for quality, convenient eats any day.
The Verdict: Dance!
Though Capitale’s spacious setup might not lend itself to the ideal packed-house happy hour, the ample dance floor, ceiling mounted LCD screens and general bizarre surroundings make it a perfect place to end up late night.
My recommendation: Forget Capitale in the light of day but be sure to file 130 K Street away in your dance-bar folder for that crucial 1:30 AM cab direction.
