There She Is…Miss America Hopeful

How many of you have grown up watching the Miss America Pageant and wish that that could be you one day? From the home of the first Miss America, Ashley Boalch, Miss District of Columbia, is living that dream! Ashley answered some questions about her reign as Miss DC.

What are some opportunities that come with being Miss DC? The Miss America scholarship program is focused on helping young women grow both professionally and personally. I was able to take part in a monumental moment in American history, at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication Ceremony.  I also work closely with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. As a representative of DC, I am given the opportunity to fully celebrate our nation’s capital and am grateful to be able to carry these experiences with me for the rest of my life.

Favorites accessories? An essential to an incredible ensemble is a nice pair of shoes. Nothing makes me feel more confident in my outfit than strutting a vibrant pair of stilettos. I also love belts. A touch of color with a nice belt can change a look. No outfit is complete without earrings! I love rhinestone or pearl studs. They are both simple and elegant, and will never go out of style.

One makeup item you couldn’t do without? I absolutely love lip gloss! I have been wearing Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Polish in the shade Dani, and I can’t travel without it. Along with a nice berry color, it also makes my lips feel moisturized, and having lips that feel as good as they look is a big plus for me!

Miss America Pageant Talent: I will be singing a pop vocal song, ‘Why Do Fools Fall in Love’ by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. I simply love poodle skirts, swing dancing, and the catchy melodies that Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers sing. I can’t wait to dance in my red polka dot dress on the Miss America stage!

I would totally love to be miss America. It is awesome to see how woman can help the community and make a difference! Beauty queens are not just make up and flame and this article truly portrays that! Keep up the good work Shaina.

I love the fact that women of beauty are using their brains and not relying on there looks to put others first. These are the women that our younger generations need to be looking up to not just the women in rap videos being explicit, but actually the women who are beautiful on the inside and out. Shaina this is a job very well done I will ne looking toward to many more.

Pageant life allows the shear inner beauty of these ladies to be displayed outwardly. Becoming a roll model is something that is evident not to mention the confidence that is seen as they are strutting in their stilettos. Shaina, I appreciate this journal story which will no doubt inspire many. Keep them coming.
