Now, customers and fans will have a chance to own a piece of its history. A two-day estate sale, featuring memorabilia, collectibles and small wares, will take place at the restaurant on Jan. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
In its final days, lines stretched out the door and down the block, as loyal customers gathered for one last taste of iconic dishes like the “Crisfield Special,” a casserole of lump crabmeat in a delicate white sauce.
Renowned for its unchanged menu and old-school charm, Crisfield was a fixture in Maryland’s culinary history. In 2022, it placed No. 8 on WTOP’s list of “Best Seafood” restaurants. The Washington Post once described it as a place that “deserves to be called a Maryland institution,” serving stuffed shrimp and crab imperial since the days of Harry Truman’s presidency. Over the decades, similar seafood establishments in the area have disappeared, leaving Crisfield as the last of its kind.
Owned by the Landis family since it was founded, the restaurant was run by the third generation of descendants, seven cousins who carried on their grandmother Lillian Landis’ legacy.
Adding to its storied history, Crisfield’s walls featured a tribute to late singer Jimmy Buffett, a frequent visitor whenever he performed in the area.

Poolesville Restaurant on USA Today’s Top 20
At the beginning of 2024, USA Today went on a mission to find the best new restaurants. To find them, the newspaper asked a panel of food and travel experts to nominate their 20 favorite new restaurants that opened in the past year. Then, readers voted for their top picks to determine the winners.
The Farmhouse Bistro at the Crossvines, 16601 W. Willard Road, Poolesville, finished No. 9 on that list.
The Crossvines opened in the summer of 2023.
“The Farmhouse Bistro at The Crossvines is an artisanal restaurant set in the hillsides of Poolesville, Maryland,” USA Today wrote. “Come here for the pork ribeye, served with Swiss chard, rhubarb compote and Marsh Hen Mill grits, and pair it with a wine flight from Crossvines’ own superb estate collection. Sit outdoors by a wood fire pit looking out at 380 acres of verdant countryside and you’ll not only have a great meal, but one soothing city escape as well.”
The Farmhouse Bistro is open from noon-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
