How to Motivate Yourself to Work Out

It is a chilly morning. It is super cold and wet outside, and the blankets are too warm and cozy. You want to get out, but…

Well, we all know that getting started is not a stroll in the park. Wearing your fitness clothes and kick-starting your fitness goals is, more or less, a vicious cycle. You want to as fit as the best players in the NBA playoff odds, but you find yourself wasting a lot of time trying to figure out how you will get to the gym or get up and run.

It is not like you are preparing for a marathon or a weight lifting championship. All you need is a 30-45 minute workout for three or four days a week, but the couch potato inside you won’t allow it. Now, it is time to break the mental chains and start working out for a healthy life! Below are tips that will motivate you to get your sweat on:

Set goals

What do you want to achieve by working out? This is the first question you should answer when starting your fitness journey.

Set achievable goals that feature clear milestones. Your goal doesn’t have to be huge and somewhat “unachievable.” It could be as easy as fitting into that old pair of pants tucked in your closet, or losing a few pounds. When you adapt your life around realizing your goal, you will have an inner motivation to keep working, and eventually, you will achieve desirable success.

Develop a schedule

You don’t have to work out every day to achieve your fitness goals. However, a recent study shows that developing a daily routine that incorporates physical activity can help in promoting routine exercise. Therefore, one of the most critical things to do when starting is to choose the type of workout you want to engage in, the amount of time you will spend on it and where you will undertake it. Then, take a few minutes and develop a plan for the rest of the week. This will give you a clear strategy to follow in achieving your goals.

Get a squad

According to research, finding a fitness partner can increase the amount of exercise one does. When you have a friend waiting for you, attending gym sessions or joining a morning run will be much easier. Therefore, instead of setting a lunch date with your friends, why don’t you challenge them to a regular cycling match? This will give you the motivation you need to achieve your fitness goals in no time.

Eat healthily

When you eat high-sugar, processed or other unhealthy foods and snacks, you tend to feel lazy, grumpy, unmotivated and tired. Therefore, you fail to find the strength you need to work out. Make sure you eat a balanced diet armed with lots of fruits and vegetables, fats, carbs and three micronutrients protein in every meal.

If you have been unable to wake up for your morning run, or you have been experiencing zero motivation when you try to work out at home or in the gym, try eating healthy meals, and you will see the difference.

When you engage yourself in the same type of activity every day, you will soon get demotivated and find yourself opting to stay at home. To make this ordeal fun and exciting, engage yourself in a variety of exercises. Ride the bike today, go for a morning run tomorrow and lift weights the next day. By doing this, you will be able to stick to your routine for a long time.

Starting your fitness journey is not as hard as you think. First, change your perspective and stop listening to the couch potato inside you. Then, set realistic goals, develop a schedule, enlist some friends, eat healthily and do a variety of workouts. This will allow you to set yourself for an eternity of more happiness, more energy, better health and above all, a better quality of life.
