Pack Up the Family & See the Fall Foliage
It is going to be a great weekend to pack up the family for a drive out into northern or western Maryland or western Virginia to see the fall foliage. It should be a great weekend to get out and enjoy the fall temperatures. Saturday’s forecast includes temperatures around 76 with 10% chance of rain and Sunday will be 68 with no chance of rain.
Mark your calendars! There is no work scheduled this weekend on Metro and all lines will be running on regular weekend schedules. On Sunday, Metro will open at 7 a.m. for the Army 10-Miler. On Monday, Columbus Day, Metro will be open from 5:30 a.m-11:30 p.m., but operate on a Saturday schedule with off-peak fares and free parking all day.
Snallygaster
Snallygaster is here to let you beast out with more than 400 craft brews and ciders from 151 breweries on Pennsylvania Avenue. Named after a mythical creature, the festival roars into its eighth year with a hefty lineup that also includes food trucks and plenty of live music on two stages, including Rare Essence, the Pietasters and White Ford Bronco. Greg Engert, one of the city’s leading beer connoisseurs, has selected a motley crew of brews from far and wide for your tasting pleasure. New this year, a flat fee for admission includes unlimited beer and wine tastings. Free activities include a make your own letterpress coasters, etch your Snally beer glasses and craft your own craft beer-watercolor prints. There will also be a build-you-own succulent bar for $10-$20. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Women Artists of the Dutch Golden Age
The Dutch Golden Age, which took place during the late-17th and early-18th centuries, represented an era of incredible prosperity for the Netherlands, both economically and creatively. While women faced obstacles in breaking through into the art world, many did, and with great success. Women Artists of the Dutch Golden Age, which opens Friday, examines how women artists like Judith Leyster, Maria Sibylla Merian, Rachel Ruysch and Anna Martia van Schurman were able to create masterful pieces in a range of genres while balancing motherhood and familial responsibilities.

Intersections: Los Carpinteros
The Cuban artist collective known as Los Carpinteros (made up of Marco Castillo and Dagoberto Rodríguez) merges design, drawing and architecture in addressing social and political issues in post-revolutionary Cuba. Intersections: Los Carpinteros features two 2018 videos — Comodato and Retractil — from the collective, as well as a group of LED sculptural portraits rendered as historic revolutionaries. Visitors will observe a portrait of modern Cuba that blends idealism and brutalism, utopia and dystopia, in the collective’s powerful works.

Picturing the American Buffalo
European artist George Catlin ventured beyond the Mississippi River in the mid-19th century and documented Native American communities that were set to undergo mass migration and removal. Catlin painted scenes and portraits of the Great Plains, depicting the vital buffalo herds in the process. Picturing the American Buffalo: George Catlin and Modern Native American Artists, which opens Friday, showcases his work, as well as pieces from modern Native artists, highlighting the significance of the buffalo to these communities providing sustenance and spiritual nourishment.

Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville
Jimmy Buffett classics, including Cheeseburger in Paradise and Volcano, blend with original songs to make an uproarious good time for audiences when they see Jimmy Buffet’s Escape to Margaritaville. Emmy Award winner Greg Garcia and Emmy Award nominee Mike O’Malley are responsible for this laidback journey to a place where all your problems just drift away.

Right to Be Forgotten
Playwright Sharyn Rothstein wrote The Right to Be Forgotten, a tech-savvy tale that dives headlong into the notion of forgiveness in the digital age. At 17, a young man made a mistake that still haunts him online a decade later. In an effort to create a normal life for himself, he takes on the tech companies to win back his right to privacy. Backstabbing and political maneuvering riddle this riveting story that serves as an allegory for our modern times.

Hill Fest
Hill Fest brings together more than 20 artists to celebrate the importance of music in the local community. Performances will take place on two separate stages at Garfield Park throughout the day. Headliners include Lori Williams and Rodney Whitaker. The concert is preceded by a conference that will address topics that affect the performing arts community.

Bethesda Row Arts Festival
The Bethesda Row Arts Festival features more than 200 juried fine arts and crafts including ceramics, digital art, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, sculpture and paintings from artists across the nation. New this year is the “Starter Gallery” on Bethesda Lane featuring local and emerging artists showcasing their works to first-time and novice art collectors.

Reopening of the Anacostia Community Museum
After seven months and a $4.5 million renovation, the only locally focused Smithsonian museum is reopening to the public. The Southeast museum, where exhibits typically focus on the history of urban communities, will resume normal hours to show off its improvements, including an outdoor plaza and community garden. Museum director Melanie Adams will be on hand from 2 to 4 p.m. to talk about the upgrades while guests enjoy refreshments and live music.

Alonso Berruguete: First Sculptor of Renaissance Spain
For the first time outside of Spain, the man considered to be the most important sculptor on the Iberian Peninsula during the first half of the 16th century will receive an extensive exhibition. While Alonso Berruguete’s painted sculptures in wood will be the main focus of Alonso Berruguete: First Sculpto4 of Renaissance Spain, visitors will also be able to view his remarkable work in drawing and painting, with more than 40 works displayed in total.
