La Dangereuse Collection Is a Must-Have
I have been so ansty waiting for the Estée Lauder by Violette La Dangereuse collection to launch.
“This makeup collection is inspired by what we call in French ‘espiegle.’ A wild, independent, powerful, fun and playful woman. La Dangereuse is the story of the mysterious, alluring, empowered, Femme Fatale,” says Violette, Estée Lauder’s global beauty director. “The collection’s textures, metallic finishes and bold hues of burgundy and blue are created for the woman who wants some serious va-va-voom.”
While I loved Violette’s first collection, Poppy Sauvage, I think La Dangereuse might be my favorite. This nine piece collection features something for everyone and the standouts are the two eyeshadow palettes – which is quite different for Estée Lauder.
Eyes
There are two eight-pan eyeshadow palettes in the collection – Amour, Amour and Blue Dahlia – housed in a metallic gold case. Amour, Amour features warm burgundy, pink and gold shades as well as a variety of textures between mattes and metallics. Blue Dahlia is as the name suggests and features matte and metallic blue and gold-toned shades. I quite like the metallic shades because they are deeply intense and leave lids shimmery and festive. The mattes are easy to build and blend and are not intimidating by any means.
These feel different than the brand’s signature five-pan eyeshadow palettes so if you were nervous, don’t be. When wearing with a primer underneath, I get a decent 6-7 hours of wear, which is not bad at all. I don’t have issues with creasing (bonus!).
The Glitter Pot in Burning Star is quite special. If you are into glitters and loose pigments, I highly recommend picking this up. While it is a glitter, the particles are so fine and lightweight. They are not chunky or rough by any means. I was thoroughly impressed with this when I saw it in person.
Violette calls it “fairy dust” and that is truly the perfect description. I recommend laying down a creamy base first (the P.Louise base has been having a moment on YouTube or you can just use concealer like I do). Be sure to tap gently with your fingers to press it onto the lids. Like most glitters, it is best to do this first then go in with your foundation. Otherwise it can fall onto cheeks depending on how messy you are. Also be careful because if you tip the jar over, glitter goes flying out.
Eye gloss is having a moment and I am not mad about it. Violette’s Eye Gloss in Sheer Scandal adds a touch of glitter and gives lids a dewy look. It has a holographic effect that has to be seen in real life to be appreciated – photos don’t do it any justice! You can use it on top of eyeshadow or wear solo for a glossy, runway effect. Like any gloss, expect this to crease.
The final eye product is the Deluxe Eye Crayon in Sly & Sultry, a warm copper that makes any eye color pop. I love this formula and highly recommend this product. It is so easy to apply and you can use it all over the lid, as a base or as a liner.
Lips
There are three lip products in this collection. The first two are the Pure Color Envy Paint-On Liquid LipColor (long ass name just to say liquid lipstick). There is a beautiful nude lipstick called Naked, which is a matte formula.
This was a shocking product for me because I didn’t expect the nude to look nude on my skintone. But it does! On fairer skin it gives that 90s lip look (not quite brown, but not a pinky nude). On deep skin it is an actual nude. I love pairing this with MAC Chestnut and/or Spice lip liners.
The second liquid lip shade is a deep burgundy metallic shade called La Dangereuse. The final lip product is Estée Lauder’s standard Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick formula in the shade Diabolique, a creamy raspberry that gives lips that just kissed look.
Face
There is only one face product in this collection, and it is a blush and highlighter palette. The Violette La Dangereuse Pure Color Envy Sculpting Face Trio in Swirling Passions features two blush shades that can be worn alone or together. The highlighter is a soft champagne that is slightly chunky. This doesn’t really show up on deep skin so it is a pass for me. This is ideal for those with fair to medium tone skin.
In all, I think the eye products are the must haves in this collection. They are so different than what Estée Lauder typically releases.
If you can only get one of the eyeshadow palettes Amour, Amour is probably the most wearable for every day, but Blue Dahlia is my favorite. It truly pops on the lids. I have seen comments that these are similar to the Colourpop x Bretman Rock palettes. While similar in color scheme, I think Violette’s palettes are warmer while Bretman’s is cooler/icier.
