Guide to Eating at Summer Music Fests
Music festivals are a blessing, and we are lucky in the UK to be blessed. No matter if you are into indie or EDM, metal or pop, the chances are that you are enjoying one of the many offerings in the UK this summer. If you are making a weekend of it, that means planning for more than just the music. You will need to think about camping gear, the road trip and of course, what you are going to eat. Luckily, most festivals these days have turned themselves into homes away from homes. So, read on for our survival guide (read: making sure your mom knows that there is going to be stuff to eat).
Try a range of new things
Sure, you have probably packed a few bags of ramen, but these often involve messing around at camp and they aren’t super interesting.
Music brings us so many cultural experiences, so it is understandable that the booths on the outskirts of the pit are going to be experiences in themselves. When so many different people come together, you have to account for all kinds of different tastes.
These days everyone is catered for – it is rare that you can pop out mid-festival to go to the shops. You will see everything from vegan fare to Greek street food, as well as classics like pizzas and burgers in between. Make the most of it. Prices are probably going to be higher regardless, so you might as well get your money’s worth!
Even if you aren’t camping overnight and are opting for a day fest instead, don’t forget to order your obligatory kebab on the way home from Deliveroo!
Eat “on the hoof”
If you are expecting a sit-down meal complete with luxuries like tables and cutlery, you might be a little disappointed. Luckily, eating on the go means that you can spend more time watching the very best bands (or, if you prefer, sitting around drinking in a field).
Because you will be eating on the go, make sure that you have your money tucked away safely somewhere because you will likely not be going back to your tent after your food. Invest in some wipes or hand sanitiser, too. Festivals are often not the cleanest of places, and you are probably going to be eating with your hands!
Whatever you do … eat
We have all seen it happen. When people don’t eat at festivals, things can get interesting, and not in a good way! Music festivals are often a time to overindulge, but sometimes not in the best things. Drinking is bound to happen at festivals, but you should never do it on an empty stomach. Sure, you might be on a budget, but if you forego just one beer, you wi’ll be lining that stomach. You can think you are too broke, too busy or both, but you will undoubtedly have a way worse experience if you are spending it in a medical tent. That is one sure way to miss your favorite bands. Do yourself a favor, spare yourself a tenner and 10 minutes to treat yourself.
Music festivals are all about having the time of your life, so surely that has got to involve food?
