Can Makeup Help Keep Acne Under Conrol?

A lot of my friends like sharing makeup, and I always have to be cautious and remind them that I do not like to share makeup because of my acne. My dermatologist recently said that it is not germs that causes acne, but rather genetics and hormones. I am not sure I have explained to my friends it is nothing personal, it is just because my skin is more susceptible to red marks when I do not use acne-proof makeup.

Acne is not something someone gets because they do not maintain their personal hygiene. In fact, someone can have exceptional hygiene and still get acne because of the rate at which they produce sebum. It is purely hormonal, and there is nothing they can do to change the rate of how much is produced except by taking birth control, which as a side effect helps reduce acne, or by using prescriptions and products that will help tame acne and keep skin as acne-free as possible.

Oil-free makeup is great for acne-prone skin because oil clogs it more easily. Having to use acne-proof makeup does not have to be a bore though, and it helps keep acne under better control. Along with a great cleansing routine in the morning and at night, using the following products can help your skin to steer clear of any red marks:

For daily sunscreen, use Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Broad Spectrum 35. It protects your face from the sun’s harmful rays, and you can wear it daily underneath makeup.

For daily primer to make sure makeup stays on, use Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer-Blemish Control. It contains 2% salicylic acid, which helps clear up skin over time. In clinical testing, this product gave women clearer skin within two weeks.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder is also oil-free and dermatologist and allergy tested, meaning that it is good for skin, especially acne-prone and sensitive skin types.

By using these products along with an exceptional facial cleansing routine, it is possible to keep your skin’s marks under control. Sometimes prescription strength products can prove to be too strong, so ensuring your daily makeup routine is oil-free can help tame your acne marks and prevent your skin from getting worse.
