What’s Your Flirting Motive?
We all have our hobbies. Some love to shop, others love the outdoors and some just love wine. But something we all love is the fine art of flirting. Flirting is a rewarding pastime that fills so many voids in what seems to be a hectic life. This hobby can be taken very seriously and mastered, but it can also be meaningless and fun. Don’t fret if you don’t have an end goal, half the time people don’t even have intentions to flirt.
What are some reasons to flirt?
Some people have the best intentions before they flirt. These people genuinely know that flirting can lead to consistent dates, a cuddle buddy and someone they can potentially love one day. Others, however, set no standards when it comes to flirting, and do it for the free food, drink buddy or someone they can most likely bang.
I am completely guilty for flirting for free things, and I have absolutely no shame admitting this. Before settling down, flirting was all a game to me. I loved seeing how much stuff I could get for free before having anything expected of me. And typically that’s when I’d move on. I even got a free pure-breed corgi puppy, but that’s a story for another time. The point is, when flirting, there’s always one person that takes it much more serious than the other. When you are the careless flirter, you get all the perks, and all you have to do is be your entertaining, charming self. When you are at the other end, you are willing to do anything to prove yourself despite your chances of being rejected.
Be careful when flirting because whichever side you are on, you may be misleading someone or be the person mislead and sometimes broke at the bar. If you aren’t looking for anything serious, or you can tell you’re about to be used, watch out for the four B’s of flirting. So unless you believe in love at first sight, you’ve definitely fallen guilty of flirting for booze, an easy bang, out of boredom or to boost your confidence.
Here’s an inside look of the four B’s:
- Booze: It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We’ve all flirted with someone for a drink or two or three. The point is it’s socially acceptable to use someone for free drinks, but make sure to get out while you can. If you stay around too long they’ll think the night is actually going somewhere. Avoid being taken advantage of at all costs.
- Bang: Dry spells are the absolute worst. Flirting is probably key to getting laid. And most of the time it’s at minimal effort. Flirting essentially expresses that you are interested in someone, which is more than likely in the physical sense. So feel free to have fun as long as you’re protected!
- Boredom: Sometimes people find themselves bored out of their mind. It can be at a lame party or empty bar. Either way, sometimes talking to someone helps pass the time. And like I’ve said, flirting is America’s favorite pastime.
- Boost: Others just want to flirt for the hell of it. Its a confidence booster. Flirting means that someone else finds you physically attractive. And if the you share fun, meaningful conversation it can be that the other person even finds you charming and clever. In the act of flirting, compliments are thrown everywhere, and some people are eager to catch them all.
So there you have it, the four B’s to flirting!
Occasionally in life, the motives for flirting actually lead to a real love interest. Maybe you intended to get free booze, an easy bang, some sense of amusement or attention, but at the end your flirting leads you to meet a really great potential partner or friend. When that doesn’t happen, it means your plan succeeded, and it was an easy hit it and quit it ordeal. The bottom line is you should not feel bad for having different motives for flirting. Flirting is meant to be fun, and it’s a way to met people you’d normally never talk to. So go out there and become a flirting freak, don’t be shy when getting what you want.
