What Should You Wear to Work & Avoid?

It is great to see that women are more secure and actually common in the workplace, but we do see problems when looking at business attire when attending business dinners, meetings and even going to the office. According to most experts, executive women tend to make mistakes from wearing clothes that are too casual to not being attentive to fit. In order to help, here are some common mistakes that you have to avoid at all costs:

Corporate culture counts

You cannot simply take a look at business attire you see online and expect it to be suitable for you. You have to consider the corporate culture that is in place. For instance, investment banks will need you to wear neutral colored suits. When dealing with creative fields like advertising, you are allowed to think out of the box.

No matter what you choose, make sure that you convey professionalism. An outfit that is suitable in one office may not be suitable in another. Do not make the assumption that the clothes you wore at a past job can be reused now. You might be mistaken and that can cause various problems.

Not changing designers

We know that you love a designer, but that does not mean that you should only buy clothes from one store. When you vary the designers and stores, you always end up looking fresh. If you have to wear a neutral suit, you can always add earrings, scarves, pattern tights and accessories. Start with really good basics and then build from that. You can also combine clothes from different designers. There are no limitations and a business woman should never come to the office with the same clothes two days in a row.

Choosing a bad fit

Clothes that are too skimpy or too tight are very bad. You cannot gain the attention of people when the clothes are overly revealing. With baggy clothing we have similar detriments. Any woman that wears shapeless clothes in a business environment will end up with a sloppy look.

Try to stick to the contemporary cut and always avoid clothes that are too large or fit improperly. That is important because a good fit will give you a valuable confidence boost. There is no reason why you should not take clothes to a tailor if something doesn’t fit properly. It is actually quite rare to go to a store, buy something and look perfect from your first try.

Thinking about trends too much

You can be as trendy as you want when you are going to a restaurant or a party during your free time. When you are at work, you have to be sure that you are not too trendy since that could cause problems. Finding a perfect mix between classic and trendy is difficult, but you can do it as long as you simply do not exaggerate with what is currently trendy.

On the whole, dressing for work is difficult because we tend to go too corporate or too personal. A mix needs to be found and as soon as you manage to do this, you will look stunning.
