Shopping Ain’t Labor
There used to be the days when the only reason some would get the newspaper was solely for the coupons. There’s still couponing nowadays (think extreme), but the high days of the printing press are long gone. Hello mobile: almost everything can be done online — including shopping.
I fondly remember going to Macy’s back home in Guam with my mom, coupons in hand, especially on holiday weekends. We’d go through racks and racks, and I’d spend endless hours trying on outfits and helping my mom pick something to fill the shopping bags as if they were Christmas stockings. The coconut does not fall far from the palm tree.
On Saturday, a friend and I decided to drive down to the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. As a first-timer, it was quite impressive! It didn’t feel run down. Because it’s pretty small, it felt fuller than say, Tysons Galleria … Teeny-bopper excitement paired with retail therapy.
The one thing I could have done, however, is check for extra savings on macys.com before hitting the brick and mortar. I could have gotten an extra 20 percent on my Rachel Roy buy with an in store savings pass. Still, the receipt shows the customer service representative still tacked on a 10 percent discount in addition to the blazer being already half price (unmarked!) so I feel OK. I bet I could go back for a few dollars of redemption. It’s easy enough with the Metro right there.
Go use this unofficial end of summer to soak with an air conditioned walk around the stores. You could easily sit at home and use your iPad to get online exclusives, but there’s nothing like trying it on first with a friend. Besides, my blazer isn’t even available on the web!
Looking forward to the next holiday shopping season already.
