The Milan Fashion Week autumn/winter 2023/24 collection from Dolce & Gabbana was a fantastic tale of timeless sensuality that can only be told by the models’ pure beauty storming the runway. Chiffon, lace, transparencies, crystals and feathers were the common thread in classic black, red, brilliant white and gold. The meticulously tailored garments captured the imagery of the true heritage of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The message? Sensuality.

The sensuality movement by Dolce & Gabbana

The “Sensuale Collection” is steeped in meaning, stating that sensuality should not be confused with sexuality. Relating to a woman’s experiences, attitude and soul, sensuality is the imagery the Italian fashion brand has created for the non-superficial concept of beauty. The progressive ideal is one of classic and timeless pure magnificence. It is a new beginning for Dolce & Gabbana to restart in a new key introducing an enchanted world of nuances that exude sensuality.

The rediscovery

For those who remember the ’90s, Milan Fashion Week was a look into the past. It was a chance to revisit the pieces that gave a feeling of empowerment to women everywhere. Designers from the 1990s became famous for silk blouses and laced underwear-outerwear collections. Wearing garments like these gave women a sense of comfort and sensuality with a feeling they could conquer the world. Thirty years later, the garments continue to evoke the same emotional state and will for the next generation.

The collection

The garments of chiffon, silk, lace, tulle, feathers and other precious materials capture the nostalgia of the late 1980s and early ’90s. The collection draws from the sensuality of women to celebrate what makes them natural and spontaneous. Iconic weight and volumes accompanied by mastery in tailoring, these pieces bring light into the inner woman. Chantilly lace bodices with sheer bras, silk satin culottes, spencer jackets with satin and wool canvas lapels and double pence trousers with black silk and chiffon dresses were all features that made women want to shop. It was a show filled with pieces that any woman would proudly add to their repertoire.

The tailoring

The composition of the collection focused on three elements: lingerie, jewel-encrusted pieces and tailoring. The Italian duo plays with manageable proportions and is closer to the classic tailoring related to their heritage. Dolce & Gabbana wanted to return to its roots by using limited fabrics to explore a woman’s femininity. Pure materials like wool, silk tulle and cotton in a pure form, not to be sexy, but feminine.

The culture of Dolce & Gabbana

The appeal of the foundation of fame in the 1990s that Dolce & Gabbana expresses in the new collection is palpable. Models storming the runway in black lace screams authenticity. The Italian duo wishes to reset the codes and timeless pieces that will remain throughout the seasons with women regardless of the fashion status quo. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana strive for natural and captivating imagery in all beautiful women everywhere. The stunning collection marks the progressive direction for the Italian brand, making a significant connection of sensuality in women of every generation.
