With this guide, you can learn about the different types of earrings. From studs to jacket earrings, you can find the right accessory for you.

Now are you ready to dive in? Here ‘s the insider scoop on the types of earring styles:

Stud earrings

This beloved classic is one of the most essential earring styles. It comes in a variety of different sizes, shapes and designs that range from edgy to modern.

However, what sets a stud apart from other earring types is that it does not dangle down. Instead, studs “hug” the ear and are typically positioned on the earlobe. Although since you can’t see the connection, studs are often thought of as “floating,” especially since the pin that goes through the ear is hidden by the outward-facing jewel.

Hoop earrings

Hoops are another popular type of earring that has a wide variety of sizes and shapes. Customarily, however, hoops are circular, but as they have increased in popularity, they now come in artsy variations. For example, you can find square, oval and even triangle hoops.

Although, despite the shape, hoops have a small piece of metal that penetrates the ear and connects to the other end of the hoop, creating a full circle.

Chandelier earrings

These intricate earrings are a must-have for any formal outing. Constructed with much decoration, chandelier earrings get their name since they are shaped like a chandelier.

They fasten to the earlobe and drop-down typically consisting of multiple tiers of jewels. They might even form a teardrop shape; however, they may have multiple pieces dangling from one piece. Chandelier earrings are typically considered fancy and elegant earrings to wear with formal attire or evening clothes.

Tassel earrings

Tassel earrings are incredibly playful, especially with their colorful and free-floating designs. These earrings come in a variety of materials such as beads, silk and embroidery floss.

However, if you want to keep with the trends of fall 2020, you should wear striking silver pieces. For example, you can wear silver earrings that have bold statement colors or large decorative beads.

Drop earrings

Drop earrings are an extended form of a stud. For instance, a drop earring will attach at the earlobe, but rather than hugging the ear, it will drop down and hang below the ear. Thus, some earnings are considerably short, while others hang relatively low.

Unlike studs, drop earrings offer greater flexibility in design. That way, drop earrings can be used for a wide variety of occasions. For example, designs include a sold metal stem and a stationary jewel making them the perfect choice for casual attire and even professional events.

Ear cuff earrings

An ear cuff is a kind of earring that rests along the outer curve of the ear. It can also rest on the top of the ear, starting at the middle and traveling down, or resting on the entire ear.

It ‘s the perfect accessory to add to a minimalistic look. With its charming and sleek appearance, you w’ll never want to take them off.

Huggie earrings

Huggie earrings are a modified version of traditional hoops. Instead of a large loop down and around, they hug the ear, hardly leaving any space in-between the earring and the earlobe.

Simply put, huggies still contain their well-known circular shape, but they are smaller and thicker than the customary hoop. For many, huggie earrings are more modest than traditional hoops leaving most people to wear them during formal occasions.

Teardrop earrings

A teardrop earring is similar to a drop earring; however, it looks like a teardrop shape. The earring will penetrate through the earlobe and hang slightly, attaching to one or multiple teardrop-shaped stones.

These earrings have a variety of designs that range from classy to edgy. They can be worn with everyday outfits or evening attire.

Threader earrings

Threader earrings are a minimalistic take on the classy drop and dangle earrings. With a simple piece of string or a slim chain, they enter your earlobe and dangle on both sides of your ear.

You can opt for a simple chain, bright jewels on either end, or geometric shape to contrast with the chain. They make the perfect accessory to wear with casual clothes, professional attire or even formal wear. With their versatility, threader earrings are great for expressing your creativity.

Jacket earrings

Jacket earrings are one of the latest modern trends in an earring design. Jacket earrings have a stud at the front of the earlobe, but the earring shares a backing with more complicated designs that peek out from behind the ear. For example, some designs include stars, petals and even leaves.

This contemporary design creates depth within an outfit and even allows contrast to take place from the emerging sides of the earlobe. They the perfect earrings to wear out on a date or a casual lunch.
