Are Big Weddings a Thing of the Past?

Are you cash-strapped, wondering how you will afford a big wedding? Worry not because big weddings are slowly becoming outdated for several reasons. With the availability of the internet, the world has become a much smaller place. Here are some reasons why people are opting for intimate weddings instead of big ones:

Less pressure

If you do not have a big wedding to plan, you will feel less pressure in terms of planning. Moreover, smaller weddings require much less money to plan. In the U.S., the average cost of a wedding is $30,000, which is a lot of money to spend in a day.

Most people cannot afford a big wedding while shouldering a huge student debt. Even if your parents and in-laws are willing to pay for part of it, many couples are unwilling to pay for this big of an undertaking. The cost of things such as décor, Azazie wedding dresses and wedding venues is very high, which makes a big wedding unrealistic.

Relief for guests

Cash-strapped guests are also happy when you choose not to plan a big wedding. Nowadays, wedding attendees have to spend at least $1,000. This means that an affordable and less formal wedding is a win-win for everyone. Although your friends will not say it to your face, they would much rather not spend that much on any wedding.

The internet has simplified everything

Moreover, you do not need to have a big wedding in this super-connected world, where friends can watch your ceremony on Facebook and YouTube. Decades ago, a big wedding made sense because some guests were meeting either the bride or groom for the first time. Nowadays, most people know all they need to know about the happy couple before their big day.

The internet has made it easier to achieve the goal of announcing your wedding to everyone. You can choose to announce your intentions online then have an intimate affair that you livestream to everyone. More websites are sharing real-life stories of elopement, which is encouraging others to elope.

They are choosing their own happiness

As you probably know, weddings are for friends and family, not really for the couple. Instead of choosing to please everyone close to you, you can elope and please yourself. When planning a wedding, most brides worry about what others will think, which takes most of the fun out of it. You can still appease your loved ones after your nuptials by sharing some pictures online.

They can then use these pictures to brag to their friends. Posting pictures online is important because you still want your friends and family to support your journey. People need some recognition to prove that they have been a big part of your wedding. This way, you can appease the people closest to you and have a happy wedding.

They want quality time with guests

Big weddings deny you the opportunity to spend quality time with your guests. If you want to interact with your friends and family on your big day, you should have a small intimate wedding. You do not need to invite people that you have only met once or twice. At an intimate wedding, you will look at the guests and know everyone is there because they wish you the best.

As you can see, big weddings are not necessary nowadays. Instead of spending all that money on a single event, you should save it for future use. You do not want to spend the first few years of marriage paying off debts.
