Giving Thanks This Year
Thanksgiving is here. What does that mean? It means being thankful for all those around you. Maybe it is someone serious. Maybe it isn’t. Whether it is just a friend, someone who is a friend with benefits or something serious, you should know your close friends will take you seriously no matter what.
Say it is just friends. What is next? Should your friends warn you if this person is with someone else? Or is that normal? Expect to draw lines this time of year. That way you know your friend’s expectations and somewhat know their goals/promises. If that is not the case, what’s next?
Maybe this means you are in an open relationship. If this is the case, you should probably know. If it isn’t the case, then that is nothing and you know. If you have a couple weeks to kill, then maybe you date around.
Unless things are serious, don’t introduce your boo to the family. You don’t want them to bond unless you know it is real. And if it isn’t, you need enough time to fake it in front of the family.
Say all is good. If that is the case, this probably means you are ready to introduce your date to family. Because really, what are you waiting for? It is the big day! If it fails, then you have time to find a Christmas boo. If not, even better.
So what should you prepare for? Expect several questions. The family and friends will want to know how you met. They will also be curious about how long things have been going on. Expect these questions, and either be ready to improv or have answers prepared.
Say you are not ready to introduce your friend to your family. It is okay, just so. If that is the case, be open and say if you want your significant other to be there or not. If it isn’t serious, it is easier to meet up with friends. If it is more, then you will have to make intros, which can be good or bad. If everyone hits it off, it is great for future meetups. If not, you know they will just be there. Either way, it depends on how serious your new person is. Is he worth fighting for? If not, move on this holiday season. But if he is worth it, enjoy and ignore the haters!
At the end of the day, you have a hard working team working for a positive goal. In the DMV, we all want to in. Hopefully this win will bring us together and lead to many more season wins.
