Give Gifts from a Family-Owned Company

Would you like to be DC on Heels next beauty writer? We have an opening. Please send your resume, two writing samples and a note about why you want the position to our editor-in-chief.

If you are looking for something different this holiday, we found some beauty gift ideas for you.

You will be surprised to know that they come from 15-year-old entrepreneur Margo Gianos, who created the company from the ground up with her very supportive mom, Irene. Margo wanted to start a company with the products she envisioned, and her mom helped her create them.

These make great gift ideas because they are unique, and you are supporting a business as well that isn’t a mega-makeup line, rather something that has family roots. For great gift ideas for your girlfriends or even moms, read on:

Roller Girls Roll-On Lip Gloss

Honestly Margo’s line of Roller Girls Roll-On Lip Gloss has an aura of the 90s to it that reminds me of when the glosses were clear and shiny, and only had a tad of flavor to them. Roller Girl lip gloss has this same taste, where you can only taste a hint of bubblegum or a bit of strawberry, but your lips stay looking super shiny. The branding on the lip gloss is also made to give you that nostalgic feel, so this would be good for anyone who grew up sharing lip glosses with their friends during recess.

The lip glosses come in six flavors: strawberry, watermelon, bubblegum, grape, cherry and vanilla. They retail for $12 for a 4-ounce bottle, or you can get a pack with all six flavors for $72.

Aromatherapy Balms

These aromatherapy balms are what my therapist should probably have in her office. A good cognitive trick when feeling stress or anxiety is to start noticing what you smell and to start smelling calming scents such as lavender and chamomile. These balms come in different scents that you should rub under your nose, onto pressure points or on your forehead to feel a calming or energizing effect depending on which you choose. My personal favorite is Serenity (which includes eucalyptus, menthol and peppermint and does wonders for my nasal congestion).

The aromatherapy balms come in three scents: Serenity Vapor Balm for for colds, congestion, headaches and stress; Aurora Lavender Sleep Balm; and Clementine Grapefruit Citrus Energy Balm. They retail for $10 for a 4-ounce stick or get a trio for $30.

Unicorn Body Lotion

Unicorn Body Lotion smells like a magical land that you can’t stop applying. It comes in “fruity dreamscile,” a sweet scent that has a small sparkle to it so your skin is left looking and feeling shimmery and moisturized. It retails for $18 for 6 ounces.

For the holidays, I am gifting two Roller Girls bubblegum lip glosses to my girlfriends and two Serenity balms with the Mia Bubble Fizz bath powder (birthday cake scented, but they have five other bath powder scents as well that retail for $19 for 4 ounces) to the women in my family. Make your own mix of gift items by checking out the Honestly Margo site.
