Call Me By Your Name is the film visualization of a romantic novel. A 17-year-old Jewish American boy, Elio (Timothee Chalamet) lives in the Italian countryside with his parents. His father, a professor of archaeology, invites Oliver (Armie Hammer), an Jewish American graduate student, to live with the family during the summer of 1983 and help with academic paper work.
Elio, a bibliophile and musical prodigy, finds something in common with Oliver, whose carefree and exuberant personality contrasts with his own. Elio gives Oliver his bedroom for the summer. Much of the time, instead of playing pokies online, Elio spends reading books and hanging out with his girlfriend, Marzia. On the other hand, Oliver is attracted to one of the local girls. During a trip to the post office, Elio confesses his feelings toi Oliver, who told him that he shouldn’t act that way. They kissed on the lips, but Oliver is reluctant to go further and for the next few days the pair subsequently grows distant.
Oliver leaves a note on Elio’s desk telling Elio to meet him at midnight. While longing to see Oliver, Elio spends the day with Marzia. Finally, at midnight the two meet and make love for the first time. They start to grow closer and have frequent sex while keeping their relationship a secret. In bed, Oliver tells Elio, “Call me by your name and I’ll call you by mine.”
