Glossy Lips That Last All Night Long

For the longest time I had been wearing matte lipstick. Matte lipstick stays on longer because it does not come off as easily. It goes on and dries instantly, so you do not have to worry about it smudging onto your cheek or getting onto your clothes when you change.

I wanted a nude-looking lip color one night, but I had left my matte lipstick at home. My girlfriend only wears glosses, so I had to make do with what she had. Surprisingly, the color was very much a nude with an immaculate shine, and I was pleased. I used to think you could only really have a nude lip with a matte lipstick because they are usually very pigmented, which enhances a true nude color. It was still very sticky though, and my hair was sticking to my lips as I walked the streets that night. The color was one I would never have thought to wear before and, although it was especially sticky, the gloss did last throughout the night. I am not one for reapplying much of anything once I close my apartment door, so anything that lasts is a keeper in my book.

The Marc Jacobs’ Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer line of glosses makes some unique nude colors that I certainly think are good to own; especially for work, since like I have said before, most people can’t stroll into the office with a funky lip color or a hot pink lip unless you have a very relaxed work environment. Or unless you want to draw attention to yourself, which I don’t recommend unless your latest project excels in every way possible, so that that will be the talk of the office instead of your glittery, purple lips. Thank goodness for makeup brands that are aware of this and make some exceptionally great nude colors.

I wore the Make Me! shade. It was a pink meets lilac color and came out to be a true nude. I was worried it would be too purple, or that it wouldn’t be conservative enough to blend in, but the color blended in nicely, was extremely shiny and gave my regular nude matte lips a nice change of pace.

If you aren’t a fan of glosses because they are too sticky, dab some concealer onto your lips before applying any glossy lip shade. Just a light slide of your finger with some foundation to cover your lips will do. The foundation will make the color more vibrant through the shine, and the gloss will stay on your lips longer because it will bind to the foundation.
