Protect Your Hair from Heating Tools
I am not one to blow dry or straighten my hair on a daily basis. I usually use a detangling leave-in conditioner and then add some shine by spritzing on a keratin oil spray all over my golden locks while I let it air dry. I usually only use flat irons on the weekends or for special occasions. When I do, I have found there are products that protect your hair from the heat and to keep moisture locked in so it does not get dried out from the heat.
I was getting my hair styled last week, and my hairdresser sprayed something on my hair before she used the flat iron on my wavy strands. “I don’t want hairspray on my head before you straighten my hair. That will burn my hair out!” I said. My hairdresser then told me about thermal protecting sprays that are used before you apply heat to your hair to keep it safe from the heat and to keep your strands healthy with long-term use of blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc. The sprays are protectants, and there are many different kinds.
She recommended I buy one from the salon, but I wanted to do some research before spending a lot of money on something I may not even like. I am very particular about what I put on my hair and whether I like the smell, consistency or feel of a product.
Below are two that I found to be worth the money:
Not Your Mother’s Beat the Heat Thermal Styling Spray has a nice feel to it when you spray it on. It does not feel super sticky and has a very light, fresh scent to it. Not only does it protect, but it also tames fly aways and fizziness by keeping a very subtle hold, that of a very light hair spray. (It is not hairspray, but works in that way.) You can also spray it on after you have straightened or curled your hair to keep your hair intact. It is affordable for the size of the bottle. It can be sprayed on damp hair right before you blow dry.
Goldwell Stylesign Sleek Perfection Thermal Spray uses a formula with Flexshine Protect Technology that reduces hair breakage up to 50 percent, is humidity resistant for up to 24 hours and provides heat protection up to 392 degrees Fahrenheit. (You can check how hot your hair iron is by checking the number next to the setting.) It is sprayed onto your dry hair before using any of your heated tools. It also adds incredible shine to your strands. It is pricier and offers less product in the bottle then the previous spray, but if you have hair that is extremely dry then this might be for you due to its added benefits.
