How To Wear Nude Lips
The nude lip seems to be everywhere these days. I used to believe a woman could only pull off the nude lip for a go-to-work type of look and never for a night out on the town. However, with all the different types of nude lipsticks now available and the many different ways it can be worn, it is evident that the nude lip is not only just a classic statement anymore, but a look that can be worn almost anywhere.
I love a nude lip when I wear it to the office because it blends in nicely, it is appropriate for business meetings and it is not flashy to put the attention on my face when it should be on the PowerPoint I am presenting.
The other day I agreed to go to a last minute dinner date with my girlfriends and reached into my purse to give my lips a quick swipe of my bright red lipstick to find out I only had my Laura Mericer Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Praline Cream, and I needed something on my lips so I applied what I had.
I looked washed out since my look is very minimalist and classic for work, so I added more blush to remedy that and the look was great. I later went to buy some new nude shads of lipsticks and was told by the stylists that nude lipstick is now the new go-to look.
To get a great nude lip you have to make sure that the nude shade is not exactly the color of your skin, otherwise your lips will virtually disappear.
Below are some nude lipsticks to try for each complexion:
Pale/fair complexion:
If you have a pale/fair complexion, make sure the nude lipstick leans towards more of a dusty rose. The pink of any rose color will add the color your lips need to match a complexion that is on the pale/fair side.
Tom Ford’s Lip Color in Blush Nude finishes with a luminous glow that texturizes nicely with its creamy feel. It has the right amount of dusty rose in it to stand apart from your skin tone.
Medium/olive complexion:
If your complexion leans towards a medium or olive tone, opt for a nude that has some peaches and pinks in it to balance out yellow undertones, which will also add a nice dimension of color to your lips.
L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in Nude Ballet has hints of peach and pinks in it and will give you a high shine gloss as well.
Dark complexion:
If your complexion is on the dark end, look for nudes that are bronzed or have golden tones in them. This will brighten up your lips as well as separating your lip color from your skin tone, all while still keeping the subtle nude color of a lipstick.
Lancôme’s L’Absolu Rouge in Henne has a golden sparkle to it, which blends nicely with the nude color of it and will settle on your lips with a shiny and creamy finish.
You can begin to mix and match within shades of nude lip colors that you like best. However, your lips should never fade away completely from your face with a nude color. The color should be one that works with your skin complexion, and you should accentuate other parts of your face since a nude lip is usually a color that is subtle in relation to the rest of your make up.
