Recognizing Your Superstar Lover
With the Oscars coming up this weekend, everyone’s excited to see who gets recognized amongst the best of the best. From planning a stellar award watching party or catching up on some of the movie nominees, everyone’s ready for a good time. But why do we only recognize the movie stars and not our everyday superstars?
Recognition is essential in a relationship. It can be anything from a grand gesture to something as little as a thank you. This may sound silly, but sometimes we get so caught up in a routine that we forget to acknowledge the little things.
I know I’m the spoiled one in my relationship, which I love. But every now and then I’ll say or do something to make sure my significant other knows I appreciate being treated like a princess. Such a simple thing really shows that you aren’t taking advantage of your loved one, and you do in fact recognize all they do for you.
Take some time and reflect on all the wonderful ways you’re spoiled, and do one of these three things to let someone special know that they don’t go unnoticed.
Simple words
Compliments are cost-effective and do the trick. If your special someone’s been extra sweet lately, reciprocate with a compliment. It can vary from commenting on how they look to how much you appreciate their actions. Compliments can never be over used, so use them freely so your significant other feels like a superstar in your relationship.
Random acts
Everyone loves a random act of kindness. If you feel like your other half has been extra giving lately, surprise them when they least expect it. Make a surprise visit at their workplace with their favorite meal, or just leave a baked goodie on the counter for when they get home. Any surprise, big or small, will catch them off guard and make them feel truly appreciated.
Gift of giving
Since my boyfriend spoils me 24/7, every now and then I’ll get him a “just cause” gift. If you’re out shopping and see something they’d like, don’t wait for a special occasion. Just surprise them with it. Why limit gifts to birthdays and holidays. Gift when you feel like it. Actors win awards for doing great in the movie industry, so why can’t significant others get gifts when they’re award-winning lovers.
While award season is still in full effect, make your own effort to award your special someone with recognition. It will have them glowing as if they won an Oscar themselves. No red carpet necessary.
