Skin-Saving Serum Foundations

Now that summer is over and we’ve bid the heat and humidity adieu, it’s time to reassess your foundation selection as fall’s cooler weather arrives. As your summer tan fades, your skin’s condition may change as well, which means that a new foundation in the right shade and texture is in order.

Just as you change out your skin care routine with the arrival of cooler weather, it’s highly recommended that you do the same with your makeup. The sheer tinted moisturizers and lightweight concealers that looked so fresh and dewy in the summer months are insufficient in keeping your skin moisturized when the temperatures and humidity start to plummet. Fortunately, serum foundations — makeup that contains potent anti-aging ingredients — are here to protect and rejuvenate your complexion. Here are some of my favorites:

Maracuja Oil Sheer Air Cushion Foundation

For those desirous of a natural look, try 100 percent pure Maracuja Oil Sheer Air Cushion Foundation. This new organic air cushion foundation provides a buildable base that conditions the skin with Amazonian maracuja oil. Extracts of green tea, cacao, reveratrol and alpha lipoic acid combat aging.

YSL Beauty Youth Liberator Serum Foundation

If you seek a skin rejuvenating foundation in a medium to full coverage, try YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation SPF 20, which contains the same hydrating, anti-aging, skin-firming complex found in the company’s Youth Liberator Serum. It also corrects the discoloration and sun damage from summer’s intense rays. Early autumn is the perfect time to address these issues. This foundation’s Color Tune-Up Complex treats dullness and brightens the complexion for a more youthful look.

Also, I suggest applying YSL Beauty’s new Touche Éclat Blur Primer before your foundation. This radiance-boosting formula blurs fine lines and imperfections and diminishes the appearance of pores for a flawless look.

For the ultimate skin-nourishing treatment, try LaPrairie's caviar-enriched foundation (Photo: LaPrairie)

La Prairie Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation Sunscreen SPF 15

If you’re feeling particularly extravagant and wish to indulge in a truly special treat for your complexion, look no further than the ultra-luxurious Swiss line, La Prairie. The new Skin Caviar foundation contains the line’s exclusive caviar extract, known for its potent anti-aging properties.

Caviar extract, derived from farm-raised Baerii sturgeon, is rich in amino acids, vitamins, proteins and minerals that transform the skin by improving overall firmness, elasticity and tone. This foundation provides full, yet natural-looking coverage in a rich, creamy emulsion that nourishes the skin. The matching concealer tracelessly disguises under eye circles and other flaws. There’s nothing else like it for achieving an enviable complexion.
